Animas Pumps

Anyone had trouble with their display partially going out? Just Curiouus. I called Animas and they are Overnighting a replacement for Saturday delievery. Wew!

No, the display has been working fine on mine. Sometimes the wiring goes bad on these backlit digital displays. Lots of tiny little connections, each one a potential spot for a break in current. the more important thing is that Animas responded so quickly!

Thomas did have that problem. If you have an original IR1200 you will eventually have this happen. We thought it was from him falling off his bike and it hit the ground but they told us that it would happen eventually anyway. The newer ones have a double protection on the screen?. or something like that. Just got home from work, cant think of the wording right now!!

Similar problems here, but a little more involved. My daughter (age 11) and I each got an Animas 1200 in January or February, 2005, so just about 6-7 months ago.

All was well for a few months, but then her blood sugars began to climb. We changed sites several times in just a couple days but the numbers kept climbing. Finally figured it was a pump malfunction. Took some Lantus and Humalog and called Animas. Had a new pump the next morning.

About a month later I came home from class (yep, I'm a 39-yr-old college student) for lunch. Went to bolus for the meal and the left half of my screen was blank. Called Animas and had a new pump the next morning.

Now, just a couple days ago, my daughter went to bolus for dinner and her screen had vertical lines through it. Called Animas and had a new pump the next morning.

I really like the Animas pump and their customer service can't be beat, but it's a little frightening to think we have had three replacements in just half a year. My daughter's endo has a very low opinion of the company because of the number of failures she sees with her pediatric patients.

About a month ago, my pump's backlight stopped turning on. I called Animas and they had me a pump on Monday (it was Friday when I called) because there were no other pump malfunctions.

Wow - Thanks for the input. Animas was great in the response, I am a little concerned this seems to be a problem. Iven with the new 1250 pump.

i had my1250 in my right pants pocket. As I was getting into the drivers seat I heard the unmistakable crack of glass. When I got to work I checked the pump and I had cracked the viewing screen. I had a large black blob dead center. I couldn't read what screen I was on so I was leary of bolusing via menu. However, the audio worked fine and I calculated all my meals and ezBG's. I called Animas and they rushed me a new pump and it was delivered the next day.
I am curious about those that couldn't read the screens and downloading the pump. I had to grab the manual and guess if I was on the right screen.
I am very satisfied with Animas Customer Service.

Some Vacation

Adam and I just got back from Myrtle Beach, SC today. We were there from last Saturday thru today. Before leaving for the beach, I called Animas to make sure the pump really was waterproof. They assured me that so long as it wasn't submerged for longer than 24 hours at given time, it was perfectly waterproof. HA! On Tuesday Adam went to bolus prior to stuffing his face and his pump didn't work. It was dead. D-E-A-D. He called Animas and they said they'd ship one out and he'd have it at our hotel by 8am the next day (Wednesday). It was there on time and luckily Adam's dead pump revived itself after basking in some sun for several hours. That allowed him to get some sleep that night instead of waking up every 3 hours to inject himself. Needless to say, my latina butt got really pissed off. I called Animas on Wednesday and asked what they were planning on doing to compensate Adam for the money he lost due to his pump breaking (lost dinner, cancelled non-refundable shows, etc.) and the woman (if you can call her that, I prefer to call her a LOSER) said that they would put in a request for compensation. I told her that Animas should have OFFERED to do that considering they falsely advertised that the pump was waterproof when indeed it is only water resistant. I told her that the deciding factor on going with the Animas pump as opposed to the Minimed pump was that it was waterproof. I told her that I called prior to the trip and made sure it was waterproof. She told me that Adam should have been responsible and brought along supplies in case of this catastrophe. I ensured her that he indeed is a responsible diabetic and brought his needles, insulin and basal/bolus rates so don't even try it sister. I even advised her to expedite the compensation request b/c Adam and I are both members of one of the largest and most active diabetes forums available and we would be going back home after our vacation to share this story and we all know how Animas prides themselves on their customer service. Her response: "thanks for sharing." I got her manager's name and number after much effort. Anyway, Adam then called his contact at Animas, some other manager, and she was very receptive and apologetic, as she should be. She said somebody would contact him to resolve the matter on Thursday. We're still waiting. Adam actually called her back on Friday and she said it'd have to wait until Monday. In my opinion - unacceptable. I guess it's a good thing Adam is more patient than I b/c he may be able to get more things resolved that way.

I am sorry to here that Adam had such trouble with his pump. I had to respond though. With this summer being so hot, and me being such a good mom(lol), I took my youngest swimming quite a bit. The most I was in at one time was for an hour and half, never had a problem with my Animas. I was told when I got my pump, that if small factors happen in the pump, by bumping or such, that it may not be waterproof in that the water can get in through the cracks. I also double check to make sure everything is screwed on tight before I go in, well my case before I put my bathing suit on. Just some suggest as to why. Not to say Adam is at fault, by no means. I am just glad they were able to get you a pump so quick with being on vacation.

Water proof I have researched and found that none are waterproof no matter what they say. They are from out of the factory but as Minimed had said and my endo and trainers, If they get banged around or dropped(as I did) a tiny crack could occour that allows the smallest amount of water in that could damage the electronics in it. Thats why Minimed changed from waterproof to water resistant.

I don't think anything made can be waterproof expect boots mabey.

It just ticked me off b/c before we went she just said as long as the o-ring wasn't showing and everything was nice and tight it was good to go. And they didn't bother to tell us about the Vacation Loaner Pump Program Animas STANDARD for all pump users until AFTER our vacation and catastrophe when they all knew we were going on vacation b/c I spoke to someone and Adam spoke to someone. Some standard.

I don't know if it's posted on their website but the customer service rep I spoke with told me about it. She said it's an Animas Standard (if it's a standard, why doesn't anyone know about it??). The next time you go on vacation, call them ahead of time and they'll send you a pump. It will provide peace of mind knowing that even if your pump breaks down you always have a backup pump available.
