I feel like I just want to bang my head against a brick wall!!!!![]()
I started a new job back on January 9th. It's a wonderful job but I feel like I'm working with a bunch of blooming idiots. I showed my new supervisor my pump and explained to her that it was a medical device. Since we deal with a lot of sensitive information, she asked if it took pictures or could store this information I am around. I informed her that it does not have that capability. Well, she informed me that I need a letter from my doctor stating that fact because if I am seen with it out around the computers, I could be fired without being allowed to offer an explanation. She said by having the letter on file from my doctor, it would save everyone a lot of headaches. I was getting a headache after hearing all of that. LOL. So unless I can get in touch with the Diabetes Educator at my Endo's office this week, I will have to go there on my day off next week to get the letter.
Rant over!! How was your day???? LOL

Funny thing Jen. If you have your phone out around the computers, you can be fired. You can only have your phone out in the Cafeteria or in the "Phone Booths" (these are small rooms with a chair and also a land line phone).

I had to fill out a form for our security officer when I had a position that required that type of access. The form I think was on the OPM website.

Aww Cindy, I would get a letter from your Endo about your pump just to keep your bothersome supervisor from annoying you. I am sorry Cindy, The things we do for that greenback.
Peter...
REALLY!! LOL that is so ridiculous...thats all i can even say about that lol
Diabetics are naturally sweet!
I wouldn't put it past the manufacturers of pumps to offer a photo feature. Or maybe a pump/cell phone combo? With CGM?
I once had someone accuse me of illegally recording s settlement discussion because they thought my pump was a recording device.

I should have my letter by Wednesday. I don't have to go back to work til Monday and my Supervisor won't be back to work until Wednesday so I have no worries right now.

Micro and secret recording devices are available pretty easily these days online. If you were trying to break the rules, an insulin pump is certainly not be the best option. Also, airport security recognizes my pump as a medical device at every airport I've been at from India to Germany to France to all over the US. If the TSA can be trained you'd think supervisors in these sensitive roles should be able to recognize it.
My son works in a credit department & cannot have his phone on his desk during work hours. That kind of precaution seems common to banking and credit operations. Glad you have a new job you like Cin.

Perhaps the supervisor understands your explanation, but wants to protect herself from the idiots she reports to. Better safe than sorry.

Also there's the copout about interference where as your Mobile Phone is constantly communicating with the cells tower. So with all the Radio Frequency being generated they argue it's making their computers all funny.
I have had a funny situation where I was inquiring about getting a job being done at their headquarters and they said No Mobile Phones!!!! When I see one of their operators answered a mobile phone in their office. LOL
Obviously they're not tech savy!!
Peter...
Thanks Mike. I do like my job. It's a lot better than most of the places I have worked before. Like I said in my 2nd post above, phones are only allowed out in certain areas. Where I work, we do customer support for a major bank. I answer questions and do investigations for online bill payments.

Cin,
Thanks for the laugh! At least you get to keep your pump . . . what an interesting world we live in. I was thinking back to my first job . . . an ashtray automatically supplied, no voice mail or email or computer, and typing forms with carbon paper. And that was at a computer sales company.
In our world now, maybe it's not too far out there for an insulin pump to be a camera and recording device!!
I'm also glad you like your job -- that's great!
