      Pump bolusing on it's own

Has anyone had this problem? It has happened to me twice in the last month where my pump gave me a bolus in the middle of the night while I was asleep. Both times it gave me 25 units. Thankfully I woke up the last time this happened my BG was 28. Has anyone experienced this? Medtronic is replaceing the pump should have it toady.

Oh my gosh that is scary. That's more insulin than I take in an entire day! I'm glad that you are all right! I'm on my second Medtronic pump and have not had that issue.

This is a serious error obviously. The results are potentially fatal if the body it is attached to is small. Glad Medtronic is replacing it.
To answer your question, I've never heard of this happening. Is your max bolus set to 25?

Oh my thats nuts and scary. Im curious like Mike asked, is your max bolus set at 25 or something? I know my pump wont give me a certain amount at a time plus i can only have a certain amount a day as well. But then again if your pump is going to malfunction i guess all that could go out the window as well. Thats very scary. glad u woke up and are getting a new one. Id for sure be setting my alarm for a bit to wake up and make sure for some crazy reason the new one doesnt do it as well.

My pump has never done this. But I have my max bolus set much lower to prevent anything like that from happening. And are you sure you didn't do it in your sleep?

Is there a chance that you are "sleep" bolusing? This truly doesn't make sense. My pump also came with a default 10 unit max. What kind of pump?

Here is the strange part it was set at 20 so if I was indeed sleep blousing I would have had to go thru all those button pushes twice. I do not sleep walk so I don't think that's what happened. I have also changed the max bonus to 10.

Call Medtronic, they will send a replacement pump. Set your max bolus at bedtime to 0, but personally if it is bypassing the set max bolus, I would take it off and get a new one. I have not heard of this happening before. Wouldn't take a chance.

I got a new pump today. A little upset it is refurbished since the other was 2 months old. I may try setting max bolts to 0. For now I wil lock the key pad.

I am sorry this happened to you. I've only heard of this once before from someone on another forum. The person I know of had a Medtronic Veo and needless to say was quite distraught.

I got a new Medtronic Revel in August 2010 and just a few months ago it had to be replaced by Medtronic due to two buttons sticking - making it impossible to use the pump. I think when they replace a pump it is almost always refurbished. I think it was someone on this forum that pointed out to me........new pumps come off the assembly line and we get them just as they are. But a refurbished one has been gone over very carefully and any defective part (s) replaced. So far my refurbished pump has been performing just fine, so hopefully yours will do the same. Good Luck to you and I'm glad you are okay.

that is super scary. Are you sure you're not accidently bolusing in the middle of the night? I've heard of people dreaming of bolusing and actually doing it. I hope you contacted medtronic about this situation. What is your max bolus amount set at? If your pump keypad locks i'd take advantage of this feature.

When I pumped, a few times I woke up HI because a cat chewed my tube, or it was kinked, but what you had happen is HORRIBLE. I always thought about a pump going haywire like that, but had hoped it was an unfounded nightmare. If that happened to me, I'd have a hard time trusting any pump again for a while. At the least, I'd want a complete explanation from the company as to how that happened.

The Lass that Grammabear is refering to had her pump bolus in the day time. I think it delivered something like 50 units of insulin. The lass concerned as not and will never pump again. From what I can remember Medtronic called her liar and the incident never happened. (Or word to that effect) There was also another chap who had the same problem or so he says with the same make of pump with the same result from Medtronic. The chap who posted the info has a tendency to tell some porkies at times, so no idea if it true or not.

That is truly a nightmare. The thought of "sleep bolusing" is enough to keep me up at night.
