anyone here have insurance that wont pay for your pump?? if so how did you end up paying for it? financing?? is there other ways?

Some companies have refurbished ones that are cheaper and most offer payment plans with small charges added on. So anyone can afford one, they just do more checks on you though to make sure you are good on paying it off and will be for paying for supplies since you would order about $500-1000 worth of supplies every 3 months. And if you are behind a payment, most won't ship out future orders. Mine did that once when I switched insurance companies but forgot to let Animas know. I was declined on an order till my insurance was straightened out.

My insurance is pretty bad when it comes to pumps. They would only pay $700 and I was responsible for the rest so I purchased an Animas 1200+ recertified pump for my daughter. It is half the price of a brand new 1250 and is identical except that it has less memory to store the carbs of your favorite foods. (Something we don't use anyway). If you pay in full there is another discount on top of the half price, or you can make monthly payments that I believe are reasonable.

The bad news is that our pump failed in the first week of use. I believe that it was purely coincidental and that there is not a problem with these recertified pumps. (I am not sure if recertified pumps come from pumps that failed initial factory tests or if they were returned from customers or both.)

The good news is that we had a brand new 1250 pump sent to us the next day at no charge.

Just for the record the 1250 isn't available in Canada yet, it is expected in the next month or so.

When I got my pump (paradigm 712), I didn't have insurance at the time. They do a payment plan with me where I am paying $83/month minimum (I usually try to do a little more.). It seems like it takes forever to pay off though. And, some companies will offer you a discount on your pump if they know that you are going to have to pay for it out of pocket. Although, be careful of that because Minimed gave me a 25% discount in the beginning and then retracted it later (not sure why, I didn't have any income increase or change in my insurance status. Just got a letter and then called them and they said that's that basically.). So, I am paying another approximately $1500 on it. So just a heads up on that. If they offer you one, make them stick to it. Pumping is absolutely wonderful for control though, and so if you can afford it in your budget, I say go for it. Just keep in mind that it is expensive between the pump and the monthly supplies.

Animas will send you their pump and have a financing plan that allows you to pay as low as $50/month until you pay off what you owe.

That can vary greatly depending on what types of supplies you choose to use. But using rough averages, a box (10) of insulin cartridges are around $40 and infusion sets are around $120 (10.) THen if you use tape and alcohol swabs and depending on what pump you get with what battery life you can add more to that. The above is also assuming you get a full 72 hours of each and don't reuse. Most companies send you a 3 month supply and would send you 4 boxes of each.

Here is just me...my last pump order was for $900 and that is for 4 months worth (I push the limits of my insurance and try to get some more.) So roughly that comes out to $225 a month. I would not be on the pump if I didn't have insurance.

ya, i will not be able to getinsurance unless i get a full time job in 2 years and they have benefits for me... so pretty much theres no pump for me
