Question Sleep Bolusing anyone??

I talk in my sleep, I grinde my teeth in my sleep, I occasionally walk in my sleep and apparantly I bolus in my sleep too. Two nights ago, 5 units at 2am. last night 3 at 2:15 and both mornings (good thing morning is 3am for me) I woke up low. 26 yesterday and 34 mg/dl today. Yay me! Minimed has an option to llock out the buttons so kids don't accidently bolus. I set it last night and still managed a decent dose. Has anyone else had issues with bolusing at night and not realizing it? and if so what did you do about it?

my pump needs a padlock

You could do that, if you put it in a Sport Guard case first. No jive.

I think most pumps come with a lockout feature that requires a code or key combo to unlock, this is mostly used for kids by parents who want to watch out for accidental bolusing...which pump are you using?

LOL, I do think there is a lock on Minimed pumps in case young children need a pump but I don't know of others. The only thing I have ever done with my pump during the night while I was sleeping was disconnect and I placed it on the nightstand next to my bed.

Yeah, I think this is a good idea, cause then No buttons could be pressed while you're sleeping. Also, I think a good check on the basals might be in order, especially if this trend still persists after experimenting with the Sport Guard.

I think he is seeing it on his pump that he bolused at such and such time and has nothing to do with the basal making him low.

That's scary....I think the Sport Guard idea is the best then....since it won't allow for accidental button-pressing.

gah! lol My basal rates are good. If I go into Bolus history it shows that I bolused in the middle of the night. I also tried the Child block thing to try to lock myself out but I still unlocked and bolused. I think bolusing has just become second nature. I don't have to think about which buttons to push anymore. I bought a cell phone case that zips up this afternoon, we'll see if that helps tonight and if not. I'll be ordering a sport case.

thanks for the sportcase suggestion!

Oh My! That has got to be one of the scariest stories I've read. If it wasn't so darned dangerous it would be funny. You should video tape yourself sleeping. If you have a significant other, could you somehow provide them with the only way to access the pump while you sleep?

That is really scary. I hope you are able to find a reasonable solution. The sports guard case does take a bit of work to undo, so that may help. Perhaps you could also change your maximum bolus setting every night down to 0.1 (though that may cause over-infusion alarms because of your basal rates).

Good luck.

Tokyo, good idea on the max bolus amount! I'll try that tonight. Even with the new cellphone case that zipped I still bolused last night. I'll be setting a 2am alarm also so I can test....

gah, I can't wait for transplant!

Wow! That is scary. And dangerous.

Sleep walkers can do a lot of things without waking up. When I was about 12 years old, my younger brother started screaming in our backyard around midnight one night. Woke me up and I went and woke my dad up, telling him that Jerry was screaming and crying in the back yard. My dad nearly busted his leg jumping out of bed and running for the back door. Turned out my brother had slept-walked to our next-door neighbor's house around midnight and knocked on their door, then "woke up" in our back yard not knowing how he got there. I found out about his knocking on our neighbor's door because the guy told us that someone was knocking on his door around midnight, so he got his shotgun out and pointed it at the door in case someone was breaking in. Scary stuff.

If that doesn't work, contact the customer service line for your pump company and have their creative minds come up with a solution for you.
