| | | infusion site pain I haven't been pumping long. I've probably changed my set less than 10 times. With this last set I having a bit of pain. Usually when I bend over or streatch for something. I'm in the lower right ab area. It's not a strong pain, but more like a sore muscle. anyone else experience this, or have suggestions.

| | | When did you change your site? It is possible that you've hit a muscle or maybe some scar tissue underneath the abdomen.
I've been pumping since mid-December and this has happened to me quite a few times. If I change my site, say on a Monday afternoon, and it's feeling a little uncomfortable, I wait until the next day to see if it's any better. If it's not, I will put in a new site, do a fixed prime, and re-connect using the same insulin reservoir from the day before. I check the cannula on the infusion set that I just removed, and in most cases, it's bent.

Can you pinch an inch or more at the location chosen for the set? My sets don't bother me at all (either Quick Set 6 mm or Sure T - 6 mm. I just started using the Sure-T's--they are brand new, from MM) |

| | | Is the discomfort from a set near the 3rd day? Have you been rotating your sites using a pattern? |

| | | Sometimes I hit a hair folicle or nerve, it happens. But my trainer told me that there is a new neosporin with pain relief that actually has helped. if you put a small dab on the skin next to the needle before you expose the sticky tape it help. Plus it helps prevent the red spots in the site. |

thanks,
MrsB | The way I've been doing it is that I start with one side of my abdomen, next to my naval. When it's time to change sets, I will put the new set in directly next to the set that is being removed, moving outward, towards my side. I actually leave the old set in until I am completely finished inserting and priming the new set. I keep doing this until I reach the side of my abdomen (or as far as I want the sets to be on my side). Then, after working one side, I start over on the other side of my abdomen next to my naval and work towards the other side. This assures that by the time I come back around to a previous site, it has been several weeks and the site has completely healed, thus minimizing scarring, etc. |
