| | Cinnamon Recipes The dietician at my 1st counselling group session recommended adding more cinnamon to our food plans...she said there is some evidence that it helps to level out blood sugar. But she was talking 1-2 tablespoons a day!
I get some in my homemade oatmeal mix...but any suggestions for recipes?
That's a lot of cinnamon in a day... |

| | Cinnamon--level out glucose?
When I think of cinnamon, I think of carbs: apple pie, toast, cinnabons, etc. Focus on the proven help. |

| | Every now and then I add a tablespoon to a pot of coffee by putting it into the basket with the ground beans. A nice change, especially with French Roast.
I've recently discovered "Saigon Cinnamon" is much more flavorful.
Most research disproves the cinnamon/sugar level theory, but I say if you like it and you are thinking it's working for you, what's the harm?
In my opinion, of course. Mich |

| | | I hadn't heard of Saigon Cinnamon - I'll keep an eye out for it. While I like cinnamon, I don't know that I LIKE it enough to have it at the levels the dietician was talking about...more than a tablespoon a day? |

| | | I think if I had decided to try cinnamon, I would just get it as a suppliment. I can't imagine eating too much of it without a ton of sugar added. |

| | | I haven't tried cinnamon yet, but my mom and sister, who are NOT diabetics, swear by it. They do say that to expect cinnamon flavored burps when drinking pop. They both take 1000mg supplements each day. |

We received Saigon with the plethora of spices at our wedding shower 5 years ago, otherwise I wouldn't know it existed. Ours in McCormick brand, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

| | There are several recipes on my blog that contain cinnamon such as baked oatmeal, coffeecake, rice pudding and morning glory muffins.

| | | I don't know if cinnamon works or not but I use it.
I like to put it in my protein 'smoothies', it helps cover up the cardboard taste of no sugar, no additive protein powder.
Yeah, for a tablespoon I would go for the suppliment.
If you really want to go hard core you could make your own by buying the empty cases from the health food store and get the cheaper cinnamon in bulk - but that takes some dedication. (My doc tried to get me to do that......well I have better things to do than try to cram cinnamon into little pills HEEHEE - time better spent walking in my opinion)

| | | I don't know conclusively if cinnamon works, either (and it supposedly hasn't been proven to be any help for Type 1s, which my husband and daughter both are).
And I think it would be difficult to eat 1 to 2 tablespoons of cinnamon every day. Does the dietician have any specific recommendations?
That said, my daughter and I both like cinnamon on our morning cereal, and I like to eat cinnamon and Splenda in plain yogurt. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
