There are many much smarter choices than pizza. Perhaps you should pick one of them.

Eating really good pizza is one of lifes pleasures. I can spike to mid 200s if I eat to my hearts content. And, I just don't worry about it, and I adjust my insulin to get back down. But!!! Very seldom do I do that. Just once in a great while when I take a little vacation for an evening from diabetes.

Real good pizza is the staff of life for me, and lots of other folks.

After several ups an downs in numbers of late perhaps my opinon isn't worth much here, and mainly it still seems to apply that for some one thing may cause great problems while others will easily get by with it.. A blanket yes or no doesn't seem the answer.

On the pizza issue, I was very nervous the other night when my mom decided to have our one serve schwann pizza for supper. that was because of late chicken and low carb veggies seemed to be causing trouble.. to my amazement after two hours exactly I had a 95. That included a small salad and two scoops of low fat ice cream.. Sometimes that chicken turnips and carrot and sent me into the 170's on one ocassion recently. Those single serve, thin crust schwann pizzas are I believe about 35 carbs each. Shouldn't most people be able to handle that amount of carbs?

Certainly most would be able to handle 35 carbs. I think sometimes the problem with pizza also also stems from the sauce. I know that Papa John's has a sweeter tasting crust and it does push my blood sugar higher than ones from Pizza Hut (even if I just eat the toppings, no crust).

Also, for me, portion control is difficult with pizza. On piece of thin-crust pizza just doesn't cut it. I'd just as soon not have it at all than to be limited to the one-piece option. I hate watching my husband have 3-4 pieces while i'm stuck trying to make my one piece last. That's why the low-carb tortilla version works for me...more bang for the buck

There's a lot of corn syrup in those brand name pizza's. I only get local mom & pop stuff that I know I can trust.
You can eat as many slices as you want, just 1 every hour or 2 till you're done.

When we go out for pizza, I order a salad and a 6" personal pizza. I ask them to make the crust as thin as possible on it. I eat two pieces complete, and two pieces I just eat the topping. I also try to walk about 45 minutes after I eat.

At home, I use a low carb wrap or tortilla, brush the back with olive oil and top with pizza sauce, smoked ham, veggies, cheese, etc.

My numbers are good with either. Of course, YMMV.

I use whole-wheat pita breads as a pizza crust. The one I like has 35g of carbs and 7g of fiber for a big pita and I only eat half of it. And I only add veggies (and low-fat cheese)!

I remember "Big Ed's!" Its an institution in Oak Ridge...haven't had their pizza in probably 20 years...I do remember it being quite good though.

Pizza... I allow myself to have it, but not too often, no more then once a month. No name brands or chain store bought (that's easy cause I don't like it)... just fairgrounds pizza. But when I do have it, I try to not have too much. Alas, that fails more times then not.

Do your own low fat pizza at home - it is not so difficult.

Your pizza will taste better than this which you buy in pizzeria.

Only pizza I eat is homemade, by myself.

A bit steep I would say, just put me in the ground if I would get to the point of eating canned tuna and water for three meals over a 2 hour 120 reading.

I had three slices of real New Haven style thin crust pizza today for lunch. I was a little hungry.
Figured that they were about 45g of carb each. Did a dual wave bolus as per my CDE's instruction sheet and low and behold two hours later I was at 104.
I don't do pizza that often. About every two weeks I'll have a few slices.
Now I need to figure two ice cold Sam Adams into this so I can really enjoy friday lunch meetings.
