*grumble*

So, I went to Wendy's for dinner and got a Double Jr. BaconCheeseburger. I took it off of the bun and put it on one of those Arnold Sandwich thins. I didn't get fries, but instead opted to steam some broccoli to have on the side.. maybe a cup's worth. I drizzled lemon over the broccoli to add flavor. I didn't test before the meal.

About an hour and a half after, I'm at 141!!

I think those sandwich thins may be a no-go for me. It sure was good, though.

maybe it's just me...but i don't think 141 is that bad at all!

that's 7.8 mmol/l. i aim for under 8mmol/l at my 2-hr pp.

Uh oh...I was afraid the Sandwich Thins might be too good to be true. I'd hoped for the occasional sandwich without pain. Just bought four packages...one in each flavor. What can I say? They were on sale, and sounded great.

I'd better approach them with caution, and test before and after so I'll know their effect on me. Funny how so many of us have BG tolerances to different foods, where others do not.

Let's hope it was a fluke, Jeremy. Maybe your BG was a bit elevated to begin with, or something. Although, for a bread meal, 141 isn't bad...as long as it didn't stay up there too long.

I'll keep y'all posted when I have mine tomorrow.

Perhaps your blood sugar was high before your meal Jeremy. Try again and make sure before your meal that your blood sugar wasn't high from something that you ate for lunch or just earlier in the day. I had one of those sandwich thins the other night when I made portabella mushroom burgers. My blood sugar was ok before hand and I bolused for the 21 carbs in the thins. I did ok at the two hour mark. They definitely are not low carb, just less than a normal hamburger bun. I checked whole wheat buns and they were 31 carbs and the Orowheat thins were 21.

That is possible. I'm down to 3 strips, so I didn't want to test too much.

It got up to 167! I did also have two pieces of the Dove Dark Chocolate RIGHT before I got the 141 reading, so those are probably what lead to the 167.

I promptly went outside and took about a 2 mile walk, waiting to test again in about 15 more minutes. I sure hope it's come down. 167 is the highest I've been in like a month.

Good for you! Way to take control of things. I hate that people need to ration strips.

Jeremy, you know 140 would be an okay number after a meal for a person who DOESN'T have diabetes. I admire all that exercise. I'd only walk that much if it were air conditioned and I could stop to buy things.

chill. you're doing fine. but i'd skip the bacon and american cheese cause of the cholesterol. that's just me.

also i've only been having bread when my pre numbers are under 105. And I make open face sandwiches on whole wheat. don't miss the other slice. now if I could just wean myself from the occasional fried fish I'd be fine too!

I don't typically. I just have a Dr's appointment today, so I was going to get him to write me a prescription today. I was trying to hold off on buying more. I ended up using them all last night and had to stop by the store and get more this morning without the prescription anyway. Hehe, oh well. I'll remedy that this afternoon!

It turned out to be GORGEOUS last night, it was about 61 degrees outside, full moon, scattered clouds. I'm considering walking at that time more often, it was so nice.

Thank you! I know 167 wasn't too bad considering how high it COULD be. It was just a little intimidating since that's the highest I've been since I got my numbers in control.

Thanks for the replies guys! Still a little higher than normal this morning, but nothing worth worrying about. Hope you all have a good day.

141 isn't too bad.
Enjoy the meal as long as it's once in a while

So, I grilled a cheeseburger on the grill tonight and had it (and nothing else) on one of those Arnold Sandwich Thins. Shot me from 94 up to 171!

Never again. I've officially learned my lesson, and do now realize that it is these sandwich thins that seem to be spiking me.

I have just tried this bread recently, and it is great. 13 carbs for 2 slices of bread. I had a burger on the toasted bread recently with no problems.

Over 70 points...for a small amount like that? Wow, Jeremy, that bread can be deadly. I guess I'd better approach with caution (I put them in the freezer after your first post about it.)

If I'm gonna risk a spike like that, it had better be something I can't live without...and there isn't much that qualifies for that category.

BUT, as an aside, I sometimes eat pita bread sandwiches (in a pinch on the road) from DeAngelo's, but make sure that I have a lot of steak or turkey in proportion to the veggies and bread...and mayo...and that ratio seems to smooth out what might have been an enormous spike otherwise. I seldom jump more than 35 points or so as a result (about 145). I seldom do it, but it's been pretty consistent. A "pokket" there is usually a small. I buy a medium sub for the extra ounces of protein, and have them put it in a pokket instead.

Perhaps you need to balance out the carb with more protein and fat? A double cheeseburger (no catsup)?
I guess I really wanted that Arnold's sandwich thin bread to not be the BoogeyMan...

It's like being a walking chemistry experiment; isn't it?
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
