Everyone is different, but for me, the number of carbs in the pizza does not seem to correspond to the extra insulin I typically need to cover eating pizza...For instance, typically I need one unit of insulin to 8 grams of carb...When I eat pizza, I still need the 1:8 to cover the carbs, but I seem to need at least another 25% more over the next few hours to keep my sugars level.

If I eat a lot of pizza, I need a lot more insulin, but I don't have good numbers on that yet.

Hi Jeff and welcome to the forums.

My son eats pizza atleast once a week. He is T1, so he boluses for his carbs. His bg would first drop, within 30-45 min. after eating pizza then spike after an hour or so. We started having him wait atleast 30 min. before bolusing and his bg is perfect.
We now do this for pizza, mac and cheese and lasagna so far its worked great.

I spiked

Hi all

We went for pizza for lunch yesterday.

I had 2 slices and a Greek salaid (sp?) like I always do (but not often).

Got home and my bs went to 225 for the afternoon and nite.

This morning I'm back to normal (125).

I'm on oral meds, no injections (and trying to stay so).

I was curious how to handle this and work around it.

Needless to say, this is a big learning process for me.

I'm normally real active, and walk my dogs for a few miles every few days.

Been stuck on the couch re-cooperating from a bum knee this winter.
