| | | diet soda with splenda I try to avoid carbonated drinks, but every now and then I like a diet 7-up with dinner. With the recent switch to Splenda in all diet 7-up, it tastes even better.
So, that makes me worry. Is there any quick and easy way to be sure what I've been served is in fact sugar-free?

| | | All store bought food items are required to have a dietary label on the item somewhere. On soft drinks that is on the can. Just look at the can and look at how many carbs it has. All diet drinks that I have ever seen have 0 carbs. If it has ANY AMOUNT of sugar, it is not sugar free. But if it has 0 sugar and 0 carbs, then it is diabetic friendly.

The only reason I knew that thread was there is because I took part in it. If I were you, I would test your strips with diet soda and regular soda, and note the response--each blood glucose meter will react diffferently. |

Years ago, I was at a MacDonalds, asked for a diet "whatever", saw the boy go right to the regular spigot. When he brought it to me, I told him I was diabetic, and he insisted he had given me the diet. I told him I wanted another anyway, and saw him trying to hide what he was doing. I asked to talk to a manager, who let me see him fill it right. But saw him laughing with the younger kid. I normally am not a difficult customer, but who wants to blow all their carbs on a cup of Pepsi, and risk getting sick! Anyway, later I was talking to my granddaughter who was a teen then. She told me some of the kids she worked with did that kind of thing all the time and think it is funny when they get by with it. I seldom have anything but water when I eat out, since then.
Tonight, I ate out with family, at Olive Garden. The young lady who served us was a real gem! She was very helpful trying to figure out something on their menu that I could eat. Most people are that way if you ask nicely, but I do think we need to be careful when we order softdrinks.
