I was wondering if anyone was familar with this restaurant. it's my absolute favorite....do I have to give it up forever? What about the desserts? Could I have the chocolate with just fruit?

My buddies tell me the Melting Pot is all sorts of good-eating, I need to make it out to one sometime soon.

As in all things, do it in moderation and test your sugars before you eat there, and I would recommend every hour after you eat there until your sugars are back in "normal" range. And for good measure, since sometimes foods break down slower when eating out, even after you are back at normal, test again two hours after your "normal" reading. Some of us notice an occasional spike late after eating out, but that's typically reserved for high fat/high protein foods consumed in mass quantities.

for me the Melting Pot (which rocks!) is weird because we'll spend 2-3 hourse slowly eating dinner, instead of the usual 15 minutes. I've not tried dessert since dx, but the salad/cheese course/entree course is much less of an impact than I expected it to be. French Quarter is my favorite.

Talking Awesome

I'm glad to hear there is a possiblity of me eating there.

I would 'guess' that me having just a few items with chocolate wouldn't be a huge issue? I prefer the fruit to the marshmellows and cheesecake and pound cake as far as The Melting Pot is concerned.

Another thought I guess if I stuck to veggies with the cheese course instead of the bread that would also help me out

Nikki,

I'm thinking you'll probably want to avoid the cakes for at least a little while.

That is definitely not a problem, but do you think I could possibly do the fruit? I believe strawberries would be better than bananas right?

Strawberries have a lower glycemic index than bananas, yes.

This sounds like a wonderfully fun restaurant. It also sounds like one you have to go half way full so you don't overdo. Even too much fruit makes too much sugar. The veggies with some cheese sounds good. We had a discussion about dark chocolate awhile back. But that's pushing it.
Sounds like every place else-- moderation with even the good choices. I'll get this down one of these days.

I've heard great things about that place, but keep forgetting to check for where one is when we go out. I see you're from Baltimore. Any good ones up there that us Washingtonians should consider?

McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant at the Inner Harbor is very nice.

The Melting Pot is in Towson.

Everyone says Ruth's Chris Steakhouse has good food although I haven't personally eaten there.
