I wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to whether this is diabetes related since I don't really know how long I have had diabetes (diagnosed in Dec 2004) or how long I was in a pre-diabetic state.

But what I can tell you is that ever since adolescence, I have suffered bouts of nosebleeds - just as you describe. Sometimes they last a week or two, sometimes shorter. Sometimes there is a gap of years between bouts, sometimes months. I haven't tied them down to anythng. The only thing that my Dr can say is that I must have a weak vein and if it ever caused a serious problem (i.e. the bleed doesn't stop) then the answer is for it to be cauterised.

I stop my bleeds in a couple of minutes by stuffing tissue up my nostril. :D

I think this happens, sometimes, when there is a lot of change in temperature or when the air is very dry. It tends to dry out the inside of your nose and even blowing your nose can cause it to bleed.
I’ve faced myself
To cross out what I’ve become
Erase myself
And let go of what I’ve done

Put to rest
What you thought of me
Well I cleaned this slate
With the hands
Of uncertainty

So let mercy come
And wash away
What I’ve done

I’ve faced myself
To cross out what I’ve become
Erase myself
And let go of what I’ve done

I'm concerned that it might be caused by high blood pressure. My grandmother had a lot of problems with nose bleeds when her blood pressure was up.

I have never had nosebleeds, I live in Colorado where for some people they are very common, even after climbing 14000 feet I didnt have one, I would say it isnt diabetes related, you should try to think of other things that could have caused it.

I've heard it could be high blood pressure too.

I'm Type 2, but thought this was wierd, cos I'm sitting here with a wet flannel pressed against my left nostril with my second nose bleed in 2 days. I haven't had one for years, tho had loads as a child. Wish I'd thought to ask my GP to check my BP. If I get any more I'm going back to the doctor.

Steveman - I'd get it checked out if I were you.

I saw my GP today about my nose bleeds. I had 4 on Saturday, and a total of 9 in a week. Most of them have been really heavy, and scary. Anyway - he checked my blood pressure, and said it was perfect (!), then he checked my nostril and said he couldn't see any infection. He did a blood test, to check my clotting and other things, I should get the results in a couple of days. He told me not to blow my nose for about a week, as this will give the nose a chance to clot properly. It's agony not being able to blow my nose - I hate sniffing, but I'm so scared of more bleeds, that it's a good incentive to do as the doctor says!!

He did say if I have more problems that he can cauterise my nose, but that he might have to refer me to the Ear Nose and Throat specialist if the bleeds continue. I definitely don't want to see the ENT guy, cos I don't know how I'll get there (it's miles from my home, and I'm agoraphobic).....this all sucks, but at least the cauterising doesn't sound too difficult or painful.

Well, just wanted to update you, Steve, and see how things are going with you. I hope your nosebleeds have stopped, but that if they haven't that you've seen a doctor about them.

I wouldnt say that the nose bleeds are diabetes related. I used to get them really badly, once had 13 in one day... they then stopped, but last year they started again so I had my nose cauterized (sp?!) and all seems fine now. (tho BeadieJay.. not to put you off... I had a few problems afterwards coz of the burn.. he managed to burn the outside of my nose as well... but got some cream and all healed nicely!)

Though as other people hae mentioned it could just tbe the blood pressure or heat, but I would get it checked out just even to put your mind at rest!

My nosebleeds started up again this morning. It was handy finding this thread again, because I couldn't remember how long ago it was that I had them before this.

I had two bad bleeds in an hour, so phoned the doctor and he saw me after regular surgery finished. I had to walk there with tissues stuffed against my nose, cos I hadn't stopped bleeding properly

Anyway, he checked my blood pressure - it was fine....then he decided to cauterise my nose, cos I was getting really upset at the thought of more bleeds like the last time. He didn't burn the outside - glad I didn't read Sarah's comments till just now LOL.

The thing is, though, my bsl went sky high - I was 9.7 (175) two hours after lunch, and two hours after that I still hadn't gone below 6 (108). It was a bit of a shock, as my numbers are usually really good. Also, my nose hasn't stopped bleeding since this morning - but only drips and drops. I phoned the doctor about it, cos he didn't say anything about the bleeding continuing, but apparently I have to endure this for a couple of days :( The worst thing about that is that every time I look down, my nose bleeds, and it's hubby's birthday on Wednesday and I was going to wrap his presents today - but couldn't, for obvious reasons, now I'm not sure if I'll even be able to do it tomorrow. My bad timing sucks :stupid:

Interestingly enough, I wouldn't say this is high blood pressure related. Nosebleeds and headaches, which are traditionally associated with high blood pressure, only happen if blood pressure is really high - like 190/120 or something ridiculous like that.

I tend to be prone to nosebleeds etc when I am about to come down with a cold- could that be it or has it been going on for too long for that?
