Well, I tried some biscotti - it was very good and low carb. with almond flour. They were expensive - thought I would learn to bake them.
But I am having a little trouble finding unsweetened dried cranberries. I found a recipe about how to dry the fresh ones, but seems to take about 1/2 day of heating.
Anyone here order them and have a place which is reasonable and good quality? Larry

Cherrystop.com has fruit-juice sweetened dried cranberries & dried cranberries. I can't tell from their site whether the dried cranberries are unsweetened or not. They also have a mix of cranberries, tart cherries, & blueberries & unsweetened dried cherries.

Vitalchoice.com says: "Like virtually all dried Organic Cranberries, ours contain a little added organic cane sugar to balance their tartness and organic sunflower oil to reduce clumping. We continue to seek a suitable, reliable source of first quality unsweetened organic cranberries."

Shorelinefruit.com is the only online site I found with truly unsweetened cranberries. Their retail store is shorelinefruitmarket.com. Not cheap, but what you're looking for! They also sell cherries & blueberries, all from Michigan.

Until I came to the Forum, I had never heard of Trader Joe's. I looked it up on the internet. We don't have them in this part of the Midwest. Larry

Hey Larry...if you still need them, they have the unsweetened dried cranberries at Whole Foods, prepackaged in the bulk foods section. We needed dried cranberries, so I made a point to look for you while I was there. Don't know if the store in KC has them but you could always call and ask.

Oh man, Whole Foods is awesome! They carry a lot of things that are hard to find and/or necessary for alternative diets. Some people find them expensive...I have friends who call them "Whole Paycheck"....but it all depends on what you buy. I find much of what we normally buy to be right in line with other stores, if not cheaper.

That really sounds good. I plan to call them tomorrow.

Barrie - Cherry stop has a lot of products and fruits - but all teh cranberries I found were sweetened. Most are 28-30 sugar per serving. Thanks for the suggestion, it was worth a try.

Mussakka had a good idea with Whole Foods, I will let you all know what I find there.

I love Whole Foods and am thrilled to learn it has unsweetened dried cranberries. (I found only sweetened dried cranberries at my Trader Joe's.) My favorite salad isn't the same without a few cranberries in the mix, but the dried sweetened ones -- even just a few -- send my BG to a place I don't want it to be! Thanks, all, for the info.

I found them by random chance at a Farm and Fleet store this weekend. Like I have always said ... if Farm and Fleet doesn't have it, you don't need it. Not sure how far they get out of the midwest though. But it means you might look in places you'd never expect to find them.

BTW: They even had "orange" flavored dried cranberries! Not sure what that meant. My son asked why they didn't just have dried oranges instead! My thought too.

Hi Barrie - that was my best hope. Shoreline did have them. I registered and recieved an account for wholesale . They had 8 lbs for $81 and were unsweetened. But that was just before I did this post last week. When I went back I cannot find unsweetened on their website which the store immediately goes to Cherry Bay Orchards. I emailed them last week, No response.

Update ----

Whole Foods here in KC has dried cranberries - but only sweetened. I did call them just now.

Barrie - Since reading your email, I decided to call Cherry Bay as I was typing. They told me that they changed to the new website just a few days ago - Shoreline Fruit and Cherry Bay Orchards were the same co - but all their products did not transfer to the new website. It would be a few months before they could be purchased on the site, but that she could take the order over the phone. 1 lb is $23, 4 lb is $56, and 8 lb is $110 (with the whole sale acc.)

That is excellent news - finally. I will order as soon as I figure out how well they freeze for keep. THANKS EVERYONE. Larry

Good job, Larry! I'm glad you were successful. Let us know how they turn out in biscotti. And, since you're buying them, I bet you'll have other recipes using cranberries that you'll be posting. They may have a run on cranberries!

food dehydrators aren't very expensive, and they are very useful for making beef jerky and dried fruits that have exactly what you want (and nothing you don't).

Whole cranberries always go on sale around here at Thanksgiving time. I plan to dehydrate a couple bags in the fall, for the rest of the year's baking/salads.
