Kind of a weird question I know but I'm considering going back to my original GP and having more tests done (GTT etc) but i've been taking Metformin so I want to get all that out of my system before hand so the tests will not be skewed. Meanwhile going to continue to watch my carb intake and test and see what happens. I hope I don't gain all my weight back I was down to 185 this morning!!! lower than i've been in YEARS! According to her I never would have been put on met in the first place. but I like her alot and trust her and I really want to see what she has to say. I may not be preD at all but somehow I know I have issues with carbs because of what they do to me.

Hi karessamom, it takes week for it to exit your system and it varies. I say most of the effect should be gone in a week or ten days. You should be fine taking the test then.

For me, I drop it after switching to insulin. It takes about six weeks to 100% stabilize my BG :)

I would think it would take several weeks to completely get Metformin out of your system. Just by the nature of you saying you have problems with carb metabolism makes you "diabetic". I have normal bgs most of the day because I eat low carb. That makes me diabetic. As long as I control the carbs in my diet I get near normal numbers. But I don't fool myself into thinking I am not diabetic. Also the Metformin will help you with Insulin Resistance as well as weight loss.
HbA1c 5.3 3/11 , HbA1c 5/12 6.1
metformin 2550 mg
Moderate carb diet 40-75 carbs a day
3 T of Coconut Oil daily

Vit D, CoQ10, Melatonin, Multi vitamin, zinc, B 12
Chia Seeds , Flaxseeds

Exercise- Tennis - 2 hours/week, Power Walking- 2 miles most days, Hiking in the summer on trails and in the mountains

diagnosed Feb 2007
Age 64

Oh I know--Since I've changed my ways, i've felt better and lost weight--i'm hesitant even to want to start over again but since I haven't really seen her since this whole thing began--she originally ran the tests and gave me the results when i called and asked but we never discussed anything so I really don't know where I stand--she'd told me everything was fine but i thought something else so upon advice of my cousin went to another dr. which i didn't like (he's the one that told me I had diabetes or preD) I'm going to go back and hopefully she'll do more blood work--I really would like an GTT and C-peptide? just to see really what's going on but of course it probably doesn't really matter--i just need to eat low/no carb and i'd probably be all right. she told me in casual talking that they don't do anything unless A1C is over 6 then it's diet and exercise and met only if it gets above 7--i'm not too sure I agree with that either but ........ the thing that's really weird is that insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome (which the dr. (my cousin recommended that I didn't like) told me I probably had usually has high blood pressure low good cholesterol and high bad Cholesterol counts as well as high triglicerides which I DON'T HAVE so who knows???
