| | | You have MODY FOR SURE? I am hoping to find someone here that is certain they have MODY type diabetes. Do you have other autoimmune diseases? What are your meds/insulin? What is your family signifigance? |

| | I'm a MODY (3), confirmed by genetic tests. I am on MDI- lantus, novorapid. I was previously on oral hypoglyceamics- gliclazide and glibenclamide, they worked for a few years but the progrssiveness of the disease means I am now insulin dependant. My mum, grandfather, and his 2 siblings all have MODY. My brother is likely to be diagnsoed in the next few weeks.
any other questions I'd be happy to help if i can, Genetic Types of Diabetes including Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young

| | | what exactly is MODY? Is that like LADA? What genetic testing can be done to know that you have MODY--is this a gad antibody test or soemthing different?

| | | This is an interesting post. I was dx almost a year ago at age 32 with type 1. All things considered, it has been pretty easy to get under control with Lantus and Novolog. My last HA1C was 4.8 (I am pregnant and they have me under very tight control). I kinda assume that I am LADA...but I'm not quite sure of the differences between that and a straight forward type 1 or MODY. |

| | | Yes--I have a similar situation. I was diagnosed as type 1 a few months before my 30th birthday. I use very little insulin, but I tested positive for GAD Antibodies.
Same for my brother--he was diagnosed as type 1 at same age as me, but this was after a year of being misdiagnosed as type 2 and trying oral meds.
we both have little trouble managing our diabetes. My a1c is currently 5.6, and his is also under 6.
I guess it doesn't really matter that I was diagnosed as type 1 vs. LADA, right? Isn't it all the same treatment? Insulin... There wouldn't be an oral med for us anyways, right?

| Exactly.
In the long run, many of us are going to be on insulin so to "discriminate" based on which you are or why you're on insulin makes no sense at all.
You're either "With Diabetes" or you're not (even if you're Pre-Diabetic) it's still a Chronic Condition and we all gotta hang together, or you'll hang separately.

| | | mody v lada mody and lada seem to be described like opposites (if ive read the info correctly)mody onsets before age 25yrs, lada generally onsets afteer age 30yrs. (or there abouts)
i was diagnosed last may 2006 and it turns out i'm type 1 (or 1.5 or lada ~ you choose!)
my great granny had type one apparently and died a grand old age. my mum has hyperinsulinaemia and insulin resistance., lots of hypos to boot.
overall i think i manage my meds very well and love feeling normal again after feeling so ill for such a long time (five years!) | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
