Occasionally. I understand that alcohol can bring your BS down too low. Crazy, huh?

I drink rye, Jim Beam in fact. I can eat more carbs and have a drink after dinner and it keeps my numbers down.
I drink a few more if I wish and no lows. Told my nutritionist I should become a drunk. I don't do it often only when camping but sometimes I think maybe I should have a after dinner drink.

Went on vaction last week, got drunk every other night and it worked out pretty darn good. Would check my BG prior to bed and when awake about 6 hours later. No problems and great numbers.

As a type 1 I find hard alcohol lowers my blood sugars too much for my comfort but beer is OK, I bolus for it based on the carb count or experience. I really miss drinking whiskey though.

jerryn,
I am on metformin (1000mg twice a day as well as actose and lantus) and I have two drinks most days. Usually white wine or low carb margeritas or low carb hard lemonade or such... and I have no problems at all with the alcohol. Last night I had 3 drinks. I just make sure that I have them close to dinner (1 while cooking and 1 while eating.) I know metformin script says "Do not drink with this med" but for me, no prob's

Beer

I was diagnosed not too long ago and found out that light beer works very well. It gets my bloodsugar down significantly. Maybe I am missing something, because I have heard that alcohol should be avoided if possible. Wine has an even better effect. Of course I do not drink excessively and avoidgo hypoglycemic.

What is your experience?

Regards
Johan

I LOVE beer!!! (afterall, Canada has some of the best beer on earth) And I usually have a few beers a week, more so in the summer. I don't have air conditioning in my apartment and I live on the top floor of my building (where all the heat rises) and nothing really cools you down like an ice cold crisp tasting beer on a hot summer day or night.
