I'd been doing fine on Novolog but this past week it stopped working properly and my new pens didn't either. It's possible that since my "new" pens have been sitting in the fridge for seven months they've all deteriorated. Hard to say.

But when I saw the Endo yesterday I found out she had some samples of Apidra and got her to give me some.

I tried it today and loved the way it worked. I injected right before eating a breakfast of 1 slice whole wheat bread (the intense thick kind) and peanut butter. I started out at 106, went up to 123 at 1 hour, came back to 106 at 2 hours and was at 91 at 3. That works for me.

Anyone else here try it?

I've got a new novolog pen (also a sample) to test out too, to see if the problem is that mine have been sitting in the fridge too long. Since I only use a few units a day, I can keep a pen going 6 weeks to 2 months, so those packs of five last a LONG time.

I'm also going to be testing Prandin to see how it works for me.

I am usin apidra with the pen for 2 weeks now, and love it, not having the risk of posponment of the meal, seen what I will eat, and even after the meal is pretty cool, my numbers are good too . my pahrmacist told me the lantus can be used for longer than one month, and so far is right, I am using the little container for 3 month, just in case I don't put air inside with the seringe, I keep it at encreasing negative pressure , it's not hard to suck the insuline each time i need it. I hope I can use the apidra for more than one month, do you know about this? when you say you put the pen in the frig, you mean the cardriges, isn't it?

I have used Lantus for two months without it deteriorating. But I have a problem with Lantus raising my blood pressure and pulse. <sigh>

With Novolog I put the pens in the fridge when not using them. I have never had a problem doing this. I always do the air shot before using it.

But they tell you putting the Apidra Opticlick pen in the fridge will harm it.

I don't know if the Apidra cartridge will last longer than a month.

What worries me the most is that in the summer I have had Novolog pens go bad when I have carried them in my purse. Either it was too hot, or they got jogged around too much when I did a lot of walking. Whatever the explanation, with the Opticlick pen I'd be out of luck if that happened, and my doctor isn't available four days of the week. She doesn't have any more pens now either.

So I may have to wait until the Apidra disposable pen hits the market to make the switch permanent.

I have been on Apidra and Lantus in vials for years now . was on novolog and then tried humalog. I prefer the vials . If I need to take ahsot with me any where here in the south with this heat already I learned to draw up my shot and place it in a sandwich bag with a frozen blue freezer thingamajig lol! I can't think what they are called but I take my shot in the sandwich bag and with the blue freezer thingie it stays cool enough for me to trust it as long as it is in a cool place or I can put the bag in frig at work.

Love the Apidra and it hasn't caused any weight gain in me

I was given the sample cartridge which I put into the pen so I can't refrigerate it, but I might keep the second cartridge one in the fridge and use a syringe and the trick you describe, because I ruined a couple pens last summer taking them out into the heat. 30 ml with a syringe will last me a long time since I don't use more than 3 or 4 units at once.
