| | | In need of advice Hi everyone
Just found this site, and I figured nowhere better to ask.
I was diagnosed Type 2 in 2006, with a through-the-roof count of GAD. I managed to get my blood sugar under control for 2 years by dieting (and loosing 1/3 of my body weight), Byetta and later on metformin. Never had any other tests ran, except for IA2s and I was negative.
A week ago, I spiked badly and got myself on insulin. The ran c-pep and ICAs before I started the insulin, and I think I just threw them for a loop. My c-pep is still supposedly normal (1.9, even though I spent the day at 400+mg/dl) and they can find no ICAs at all. I think I'm type 1.5, but I don't think they have really heard of it in the clinic.
Since I've never had c-pep done before, I'm not really sure how to take the results. I'm on v. low doses of insulin and responding very well to it, so it doesn't seem like I'm resistant. Is 1.9 c-pep really normal? I guess I'm not really sure how to read the results. Does anyone have any advice, or help?
Thanks! |

| | | I don't know either. There are others on the forum that understand this but I as strictly T2 insulin resistant. Some will read your post later and have an answer for you. By the way, welcome to the Forum. I am glad you found us.

| | | I have a similar thing. I think I was perhaps was spiking at meal time for 3 years before diagnosis because I had a borderline blood glucose fasting test in 2006, diagnosed with type 1 in 2008, Normal c peptide of 1.6, diagnosed at 29, no ICA antibodies,no ketones, father and uncle on insulin(said to be type 1)diagnosed at 21, blood sugar levels spike to a BGL 19 (342) at meal times, very low doses of long acting insulin and novorapid 4 units per meal. My endocrinologist says I probably have type 1. I think it's possible could also have Type 1 or MODY 1 diabetes but the test is too expensive( $3000) . Do you have a relative with diabetes?
I think 1.9 is about middle of the range. (0.8 -3.4ug/i ) is the normal range. I believe it is unsusual for a Type 1 or Type 2 to have a normal result. Type 1 is usually low and Type 2 I think is usually high. Type 1.5 or Mody can be in the middle I think. |

| | Here is an article on LADA/T1.5 Print out what you need and take it to your doctors office.
Also Take a look at the chart here. As you will see, GAD65 is not present in a T2 diagnosis.
Many doctors make the incorrect assumption that, because an adult presents with symptoms of diabetes, its automatically T2 simple because of the label of T1 being classified as "juvenile" diabetes.
I urge you to seek out an Endocrinologist for proper care and treatment.

| | | Thanks for the articles.
I'm pretty confident my endo wont have a problem with me bringing stuff, he's been suspecting I've been loosing islet function for a few years, and has done his best. Besides, he's pretty approachable =) I remember the GAD threw him for a loop when I was first diagnosed.
I guess I'll let you know. I go back in November to see how the insulin is working. So far, so good. =) | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
