Hi, I am noob around this forums, I just shoot some questions in newsgroups long ago and never look for info again since I have been able to keep in range myself for long time with some bumps from time to time but 95% of the time under approval from my MD.
Thing is I landed here because I was looking on Google for “tingling tongue” and there was something that call my attention, one post that now I can’t seem to find, (don’t ask me how but I am Dumb and I close the window before I check the entire post)
Since last year I have this tingling tongue when I am late for meal which we know is not good for a diabetic, and it last for after couple of hours after meal.
Doc told me is normal in diabetics due some relation with Peripheral neuropathy which could be a non scary event in my development at least in my tongue.
However I have found that is not so common even among diabetics who don’t suffer neuropathy in other areas like foots or hands (which I don’t have); the main thing that calls my attention and makes me subscribe to these forums at light speed was the post that I found was from a guy reporting “tingling tongue” and suffering with a pinched nerve in the neck.
I suffered a pinched nerve last year while exercising and the pain last for almost 3 months, after that was just discomfort, numb fingers and some rigidness in the neck, now I am 90% ok with my neck but after the problem with my neck the tingling tongue start to show, I never have the “tingling tongue” effect before this.

When my pinch nerve happen I was under care from my primary physician and he gave me a few steroid shots and he referred me to a chiropractor for therapy and I have been under chiropractic care once a week for a year now.

Even when I am mostly recovered of my neck as I said there are some remains as result, mostly related with my left side, like the nerve coming from my back to my chest tend to make this “cracking” sound if I spend too much time in one position, like watching TV lying on the couch, or from time to time some numbness on my Middle, Ring and Baby Fingers.

I am now way too curious to understand if the problem with my tongue could be related same to my diabetes as to my pinched nerve, who knows maybe the real experts here (the patients are the real experts as my doctor said) have experienced something similar.

You got my attention with this post. I get something like this. It occurs after a rapid bg spike. I tested when this occurred but never found the bg to be that much different. I then tested every fifteen minutes after I ate a few times and found that if I spiked up very fast and then came down quickly I would have this tingling in my tongue and some itchyness around my eyes. YMMV

For me this is a hypo symptom.. what is your BG like when this happens?

Doing a search I saw several possibilities from high blood sugar levels to low blood sugar levels to vitamin deficiencies. A detailed log of what you eat and the corresponding blood sugar levels would help solve this.

Tingling or numbness of the tongue is also a HYPO symptom for me!

I've never seen anything close to hypo. The last itchy tongue hit 360 in 30 minutes then dropped about 100 pts in thirty minutes then it gradually subsided. I think I ate granola.

tingling tongue is a symptom of low blood sugar for me. i get it in the mid to low 2s. sometimes (often) it's the only indicator of a hypo for me.

that is a really really high spike. (when you say 360, are you talking about BS?) not good. and granola is like a really really fast acting carb nightmare.

so what is your BS sugar stradegy?

I don't know anything about how you are controlling BS. just asking, not judging.

Not to worry. I've only been at this for a couple of months. I got those numbers when I was still trying to find out what gave me high numbers. Oatmeal, I've found, is a real killer for me.

When taking metformin, if I allow it to stay in my mouth too long before swallowing I get tingly tongue. (Like when I pop the pill befor the water is ready lol). Maybe it's as simple as that?

btw.. my whole head tingles when I go low - I call them "brain tinglies"

Thanks for all your posts. This was new to me. Just the tip of my tongue was tingling or kinda numb and I was wondering if it might be diabetes related. I was playing on the computer too long and failed to eat anything. When I sat down to eat, I tested a 57. I ate and then my tongue started acting up. It lasted about 15-20 minutes and now it seems to have faded. Thanks again

i know this is ridiucluous..but for me my tongue feels thick when low...it is my right pinky and second smallest toes which start to tingle when i'm diving fast..ridiculous..but still true..
