Welcome Garza. Take a deep breath. You will 'LIVE' and live WELL.

It's just a little weird at first to realize you have a disease. But this is one of the most 'merciful' diseases you can get and can be controlled a lot by diet change and exercise. Neither of which is easy -- but 'you' are in way more control than with other diseases.
Type 1.5 is like your doctor explained it's sort of in between Type 1's who were born with or have contracted total pancreatic dysfunction. Type 1's are insulin dependent and regardless of what they eat or how they exercise they'll need insulin. Type 2's have some combination of Insulin Resistance (usually due to obesity) and pancreatic 'tiredness'. In a Type 1.5 there is often a greater degree of pancreas breakdown and most often need some insulin to help stay in control -- though there are several T1.5's on this forum who control theirs with very lo carb diets, exercise and Metformin only. There may even be some that don't use Metformin. 1.5's have a more difficult time controlling their blood sugars without meds because of the degree of pancreatic dysfunction. Hopefully other 1.5's will chime in and even give you more specifics.
There's a whole sub forum for the 1.5's that you could start a thread in too to introduce yourself and ask questions.
There are teriffic people here that have helped me a bunch since my Dx of T2 in July of this year. These first few weeks are the hardest. Ask a lot of questions and keep a 'glass half full' attitude as much as possible. After these first few weeks you'll have way more good days than bad days.. And diabetes doesn't "hurt".. In fact we often go undiagnosed for several years because you can't 'feel' your blood sugar being high.. Well you will learn how it feels NOW that you'll start bringing the numbers down.. Then you'll NEVER want to feel 'high' again..
Good luck.. Keep us posted!
