| | | Type 1 diabetic and pregnant Okay so i am pregnant with my second baby. Diabetes and pregnancy don't mix well with me anyways. With my son i had lows in the first trimester then in my last trimester i had some high bg's. He was 3 weeks early cause i had preeclampsia and my blood platlettes were to low, meaning my blood wasn't clotting.
Well now with my 2nd baby my blood sugars have been going crazy. It's been really hard to manage my bg's. I'm on the pump have been for about 6 years or so can't remeber though.
Is anyone else pregnant that has diabetes that i can talk to on here?? I would love to talk to someone that is going through that same thing i am.

| | | Hello and welcome,
I am pregnant also but it is my first pregnancy since becoming diabetic. So I'm not sure I can be of much help really. How are things going?
I find that my bgs are a bit odd at times but I have been putting that down to hormones and sickness.
Are you generally well?
Congratulations and again, welcome. This is a wonderful forum with the most wonderful people you could wish to meet. So dive right in and post often.
Heather.

| | Though I'm not currently pregnant, I've had five children all while being diabetic.
Pre-eclampsia usually only happens in a first pregnancy, however for me it happened in my fifth...weird, that's what I am. Typically though, you will more than likely not have PE this time around.
What kinds of questions do you have? I know there's a couple of T1s who've recently had babies around here... |

| | | Thanks for the replies!! WEll i'm generally okay with my diabetes. My bg's act up when i'm pregnant though. But right now i'm so depressed cause i don't want anything bad to happen with my daughter cause my bg's are high!! I can't seem to keep them down. It's really worring me now cause my bg's are over 200 when i go to bed and when i wake up they are still pretty high. i have to bolus for the high bg's and then i get some at night while i'm asleep. They still are going up. i've been calling my doctors almost everyday. I'm just really praying that everything goes okay. I don't have to much longer though!!
My bg's are only due to my hormones that's all is it.

| | | I have been told that it is more dangerous to have lows than highs during pregnancy. That said, I am still trying to keep those highs down. What is your diet like? Are you exercising at all, apart from chasing your child around, running a home and generally wearing yourself ragged?
Stress will bring your numbers up as well so try to get some "me" time. Easier said than done I know but do try.
Do stay with us. It is lovely having another mum to be here.

| | | Hey there well thank a bunch!! yeah i've been pretty stressed out here lately. I don't get much me time that's for sure. Well i have heard different from any doctors that high blood sugars are bad for the baby cause with the high blood sugars that will make your baby grow faster. Also with high blood sugars the baby is getting your glucose therefore making the baby more active. Like almost having a sugar rush for the baby. I guess every doctor is different.
I only do the exercise i do around the house and running after my son. I don't do much i've been pretty sick with this baby. I'm sick all the time with a cold or throwing up. Something all the time. That's one reason i'm so stressed out cause i can't hardly do anything with out getting sick!!!!

| | | Hi Mary Beth,
I'm type 1 and had a baby 6 months ago. I had a great pregnancy and a vaginal delivery. I'm not pumping so I won't be much help on that front.
Not to worry you, but prolonged high BG can be bad for the baby. What was your last A1C? My endo wanted me at 5.0 or below. I achieved this by taking TONS of insulin and eating several small meals through out the day. I hit some mean reasistance around 27 weeks...how far along are you?
There is a great web site called diabetic mommy that is very supportive and welcoming. You should check it out. If I can be of any help to you, please feel free to send me a message.
Congrats on the baby!!
