I conceived BOTH of my daughters on Lantus. With my oldest they kept me on it and she is a thriving healthy 5 year old with NO defects at all! My youngest daughter is a vibrant healthy 3 year old with no complications at all as well. I think many docs are terrified to recommend Lantus during pregnancy because of malpractice suits and it's relative newness. I used it the entire time I was pregnant because my perinatologist strongly felt that it was more healthy to go into a pregnancy with what obviously worked the best. My 2nd daughter, I never used Lantus because my maternal-fetal doc said it wasn't approved and it was too risky. I had a heck of a time with NPH and Humalog but she came out healthy too. I hope that helps you.
