Hi Everyone,

I just wanted some advice... I am 11 weeks along with my first baby, conceived through IVF. Things have been great so far - scans show baby growth well on track. I am ecstatic!

I am taking a daily vitamin which my fertility specialist recommended (includes folic acid), and trying to eat as healthy as possible - though I have to admit that this is not always very easy. I have been testing my levels more often than normal too. things have been great, but I do have the occasional high reading - generally quite unexplained (to me anyway...), and this concerns me! I just wanted to know from someone who has been through this or going through it if this is okay, happens to everyone, and weather it is a cause for concern. I believe that the few I have had (there have really not been that many at all - just a couple or so...) I have caught quite soon due to the increased frequency of testing, and I correct immediately.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

From my experience so far the odd high sugar level is normal. I am in weekly contact with my diabetic team and fax my sugar levels to them every week. I do get the odd high result at least once a week but think as long as you are aware of it and act on it asap then there should be no problem. The thing to do woud be to speak to your consultant to see if he/she can see a pattern as to why this is happening.

Well done though and keep up the good work, you've got another 6 months of this constant testing ahead of you! Oh the joys of being diabetci!

Congratulations on the good news! I'm 17 weeks. My endocrinologist told me to take folate because diabetics babies are more prone to spinal deformities. I was on a pretty high dose for the first 13 weeks, then on a low dose after that. I was in contact with my endocrinologist for the first 12 weeks, and then moved on to the anenatal clinic.
I got some strange occasional high and low blood sugar levels in the first 13 weeks. I wouldn't worry too much about it as it happens when your pregnant.

I will be meeting with a new endocrinologist in a couple of weeks as I will be giving birth at a different hospital to where my normal one works. So just gonna meet and chat, just in case he is needed at some point. That will be the same day as my 13 week foetal assessment visit where they scan for some abnormalities - the nuchal translucency scan. I am looking forward to the scan as I have been told I would be able to see the baby so much clearer! Of course I am slightly nervous too... I will then be meeting with the OBGYN who will be doing the delivery and looking after me for the remainder of the pregnancy.

I am just so glad to have stopped all the hormone treatments after the IVF! Relief Now just to keep an eye on the diabetes... I have been told and have read that from about 20 weeks insulin requirements go up dramatically. Not looking forward to all those adjustments!
