Just starting the adventure.. and lots of questions and concerns

I was diagnosed with Type 1 almost 15 years ago (at age 11). My husband and I are looking at starting a family and I am already working with a pre-conception diabetes team to get my HA1C a bit lower but I still have lots of questions.

I am wondering if anyone has experiences they are willing to share regarding weight gain and pregnancy (I am concerned about putting on large amounts of weight as I have to constently work hard to keep my weight where I want it as it is)?

I am also wondering about people's experiences with working while pregnant. I am an Employment Counsellor and wondering if it is likely that I will need to be off work early.

THANKS for taking the time to respond, it is nice to feel like I am not alone.

You are taking all the right steps. I believe with my first i put on about 40 lbs. I have really stuggled getting the weight off, but I had an unplanned pregnancy, which I am 16 weeks right now, and could not continue to work it off. As long as you eat right and stay on track, your weight should be fine. I am a hair stylist and worked until my water broke. Every pregnancy is different, both of mine have been 100% different. It's a lof of work but worth it. There is no need to worry as long as you are taking control of yourself, going to all of your dr appointments and following what your doctor reccommends. Good luck!

when it comes to weight, I was in teh process of losing weight and POUF! I became pregnant. I was kinda upset since I still had about 30 lbs I wanted to lose and yes, I have gained a lot of weight so far (13 lbs but it seems to be in my belly and chest only)

Even without diabetes, every pregnancy is different...this is my first and I wasn't ever really worried about becoming pregnant. We took it one day at a time and I work very closely with my endo. I've also been diabetic for 11 years now and I've been though the ups and downs and if you have a good team to follow up with you and make sure you're ok every step of the way, you have nothing to worry about D

Hope that helped a bit

I gained over 50lbs (yikes!) but the majority of it was water weight. I lost the majority of it in the first 2 weeks, and a month after my daughter was born, I think I only had 10lbs left to go.

Everyone's different. Some people only gain a little bit, some gain a lot. Some find it easy to lose it afterwards (especially if you breastfeed), and some don't.

No matter what, though, it's worth it!

Good luck!
