Question Pregnancy and Low blood sugars

I have 16 weeks pregnant with baby #2. With my last baby my pregnancy seemed quite normal, with increasing need of insulin due to blood sugars elevating with pregnancy. This pregnancy is completely different. I am constantly having low blood sugars. I have have had many ultra sounds and tests done, and everything looks great with pregnancy. I am actually using less insulin then I used before I was pregnant. This is very strange to me. I do know that every pregnancy is different, but this??? Does anyone relate?

I can relate.

This is my first pregnancy and I am now 31 weeks. My first trimester my insulin needs jumped drastically. My second, I was having many lows and lowered by basals (with the pump). Then the start of 30 weeks I am taking more than 4x what I was a few weeks ago. My doc said not to worry and that since all the tests and ultrasounds looked normal not to worry.
To avoid the lows you must adjust your basal or long acting insulin depending if you use needles or the pump. I hope this helps and that your sugars stay steady

Wink

I can definitely relate to that. I have been on insulin since I was 8, and I am 38 now with three healthy kids. With EVERY PREGNANCY, I had weird, freaky lows, and they started RIGHT away, too. Somestimes registering as low as 22! i had to lower my dosage and even wake up in the middle of the night to drink milk or eat peanut butter to keep it from bottoming out.
I recently got re-married, and my husband and I started trying to get pregnant this month. I can't do a pg test for another week yet, but I think I'm pregnant because starting last week, I started up with the weird lows again. My bs has been running 32, 39, 42, 50....even registered once on my meter as just "Lo"
Hope this helps, it sounds like what you're going through is completely normal for a pregnant diabetic
