I'm new to this forum, so I hope you'll bear with me if these questions have already been asked. I just learned I'm pregnant (4 weeks) and I'm trying to figure out what to do now. I've had pretty respectable control (A1c's have always been below 7.9 -- as of late, right around 7.0), I know to exercise, eat right, etc. A new diet plan has my numbers in even better control since my last A1C. I'm also using an insulin pump.
I've tried calling around to figure out how to get in with a doctor. I assume all Type 1 diabetics are treated as high risk pregnancies, so my inclination is to call a high risk doctor right off the bat. When I did call, they acted as if I was calling the wrong place and transferred me to the nurse... who didn't answer.
For those who have "been there, done that" did you go see your regular OBG first and then a high risk doctor? Did you see your diabetic specialist first?
I'm feeling nervous and excited... but I want to get in as soon as possible so I make sure that I give myself the best possible chance for success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
