| If you're dipping low in the night then you're probably suffering from the Somogyi Effect, which is where you have a hypo in your sleep and your liver pumps out glucose. If you can stabilise your nighttime BG, either with a snack, reducing your Lantus dose or splitting it, you should get better morning BGs.
Otherwise, you might be suffering from Dawn Phenomenon. If you're not doing so already, eating breakfast regularly should condition your body to not pump out sugar first thing.
Another slightly leftfield solution might be to have a glass of wine or similar before going to bed - the alcohol should keep your liver busy and make it 'forget' to pump out sugar in the morning, but only do this if you know you're definitely not having sleep hypos. |
