Just wondering...

How much does puberty REALLY effect diabetes management?
As most know, Eri has been sick pretty much for the past 6 months or so, BUT, she was getting better.
Now, for almost the past week, all she wants to do is sleep. Almost like b/f when she started to get really sick. I try and wake her(she'll just zoink right out) and she'll move to another spot or what not and sleep up to 6 hours...after school. She's going to bed (now) around 11:30pm mostly b/c she's slept most of the day(ok, basically all of it) and has the studying and her shower, etc...she still gets a good 8 hours straight sleep throughout the night...she said she's not feeling well, but won't get into full explanation. It's usually the migraines, or just body ache. The doc's keep saying virus. I just wish there was something I could do to make her feel better.
She's pulling her own at school, hasn't come home sick(just early for appt's)...and does look forward to going(all this extra studying and getting ready for finals)...although she did ask me to pick her up early today after her one exam for the day and I told her no, of course. She has no energy to her. They've ran so many blood tests for a number of things...
I guess, after that long ramble, my question is, does puberty have this type of affect on diabetics...is it normal? Her bg's have not gone below the 200's(except this morning, she was FINALLY 135mg/dL!)...she's even woken up "HI"...and she's not eating more/less...she's exercising more w/ the nicer weather and all that. (only a slight trace of ketones, new insulin, etc...)
All I usually get from the endo's is that this is a tough part of her life, the teenage years, but it's almost ridiculous. I'd know if she was faking it b/c she wouldn't want to go to school, she wouldn't be around her friends, she wouldn't make plans, etc...and she has a pretty active social life as well. She's always trying to keep up(except for this past week actually).
I feel like such a failure b/c she's still not feeling too well.
Sorry for this being so long!

I just went through the same exact thing... it's "normal", that's what "they" say. It takes a toll on a person, it truly does. I didn't want to talk to anyone, just wanted to sleep. I personally was confused about what the **** was going on with my body, and was just so tired with dealing with the changes and on top of those dealing with diabetes.

I just wanted my mum and dad to be there when I needed them and for them NOT to put themselves upon me such as they did. My mum was trying to talk me into things I didn't want to do or hear. I'm not assuming that this is what you are doing, nor am I assuming anything about... anything really....

I was tired not only physically, but also emotionally as well...

I don't know if that helps... but if you have questions, maybe asking someone who was just there might help, almost like the opposite perspective.

Darn!!! I was hoping we were through with the "sorry Eri is feeling so punny and it's so hard on you" posts. I guess I was feeling unreasonably because puberty is the pits under regular circumstances. It is just bound to play havoc with a body.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Be good to yourselves, both of you.

Yeah, no doubt I was hoping she was through the worst of it...at least on the healthy track!
I'm now thinking that maybe she is just completely stressed by the exams. She is a HORRID test taker, does better when a verbal exam is given...she blanks and freezes on tests, but other than that, her grades are good from homework and class participation. Maybe she is just stressing about that as well...and the fact that we(just me and her sister and her) MAY be moving back to FL this summer. I forgot to factor that in!(my mind is a complete and jumbled place lately!)

I guess it could be just that...tired of having to deal w/ it all, not really knowing what is coming up next and just wanting to sleep through it.

I hope to find more answers between the neuro and the endo...oh yeah, I have got to make that appt. w/ the psychoendocrinologist b/f we see the endo...maybe he'll have some answers as well, although he said mentally and emotionally, Eri is just fine...
