Cool Insulin strenghths

I know most of you are on the pump but I use the needles injector. I just switched from Humilin N at night only to Humilin U. My hbac have been in the 5.5 to 5.8 range most of the time. My problem is now that im on the Humilin U im getting the dawn Syndrome all over again. Im taking twice as much Hulilin U the I was when taking Humilin N. On the N my sugars were good in the morn and now within the past 2 weeks of starting the U i have not woken up under 180 way to hi. One night just for kicks I took one of my old injection of N and woke up at 105 what im used to. What give im taking twice as much and not getting anywere near the response back from the new insulin. I dont like taking these hi doses either. Thanks 4 the help.

your hba1c has been around 5.5 why change what you are doing, when it is working real good. If it is broken then why fix it.

I would want to take less insulin.

What is Humilin U.

You could try lancet the long acting insulin, last 24hours. take it once a day.

But you are at 5.5 so i wouldn't change to something else.

My son was on Humilin Ultralente until he was assigned a new endocrinologist. She put him on Novilin NPH. I thought the U worked better through the night. It does not have the severe peak that NPH has after 4-8 hours. It is more of a steady amount of insulin to get you through the night.

Cool Humulin U

Jon U R correct it doesnt peak so there is less chance of having an overnight reaction. I idnt have a problem with this but my doctor thought it mayby worth a try to see if i liked it and give me a little more protection against low night time blood sugars. Im a fireman and sleep in at the station so its very important if i get a call in the night that im on my toes but I agree with u guys if it isnt broke dont fix it. I think also that U is better for the body then N as far as the body accepting it but I could be wrong. Talking about low blood sugars Someone said in a post that low blood sugars can have side effects also but I havent been able to find any info on this. I dont meen while u r low i meen long term. You know me I have to get all the info I can on all subjects. Just curious.
