In a lab? I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to ask. But A1C tests are done in a lab or many doctor's offices now have in-office machines that test it. An A1C is the last 3 months of BG history weighted towards the last month, say 50% of the info is the previous month. The life of a red blood cell is around 3 months, and they keep great BG history.

The main disadvantage of an A1C is that it's an average. Running 100 five times in a row is the same as running 60, 60, 80, 100, 200. However, running 60 and 200 all the time is not good. So an A1C has to be used in conjunction with random testing to see how your numbers are coming out.

Does that answer your question?
