how much more insulin for control when sick!

Well, I was ill yesterday (won't go into the gory details, the smilie does the trick!) but I kept a log of how much more insulin was needed to maintain control (OK Blood sugars all over the place!) while sick.

Usually I inject about 20-25 total with good control, but yesterday I was on up to 60 units and still had blood sugars over 20mmol, (360mg/dl), The insulin just didnt seem to work! Just shows the effects of being ill on diabetes control and the body!

How much more insulin does everyone else need when sick?

I go high and low, mostly starting out low when first getting sick and then going high for the duration of the sickness. There's no rhyme or reason, Kathryn. But boy, it sure does make it fun!

Take as much as your body needs. If you are on a pump, it's easier to avoid insulin stacking...
