| | | My lab results I saw my NP/CDE today. Back when I saw her in April, she told me to stop the fosinopril & Lipitor that I had been taking since April 2005. Back in April my A1c was very low, 4.9, due to many lows. She yelled at me then, threatened to drop me as a patient if I didn't let her adjust my pump settings etc. I let her change whatever she wanted and it really did help, although lately (past month or so) I've been having some lows again.
So, I got the results of my first tests without the BP and cholesterol meds.
A1c: 6.3 (she was ecstatic, I would have preferred 6.0 or a high 5)
BP: 110/60
Total cholesterol: 166
LDL: 77
HDL: 82
Triglycerides: 36
So overall it looks good. I was worried about the cholesterol/BP without the meds but I have been trying to watch what I eat. I've cut way back on eating meat and when I do it's usually skinless chicken or turkey. I try not to salt my food until after I've tasted it, and have been using other herb/spice mixes instead of a spoonful of salt.
She lowered my basals from 8pm-midnight, and midnight-9am because I was going low after dinner. I'd treat the low and I'd drop even more. I was waking up low a bunch and had to eat a snack before bedtime to avoid that. My lunch insulin:carb ratio was changed from 1:22 to 1:25 and dinner from 1:25 to 1:28.

| | | Great job Liz! 4.9 is really too low. I'd take the slightly higher A1c with fewer lows any day.

That one was no surprise because I was on MDI (using NPH) and was low pretty much all the time. The last one, on the pump, was surprising.
Now, of course, I tested at 208 before bed and I'm waiting for it to come down. I'm a night owl but it's already after 2:30am and I really want to get to sleep.
I think maybe my CDE changed too many things at once. I'm always wary of changing an insulin"carb ratio and a corresponding basal rate at th same time. I'll give it a couple of days to see what happens, and then I might have to change one back.

| | | Very impressive numbers, you're obviously taking it seriously and the results prove it ! Good job !
Are you taking anything for triglyceride control ? My doc has me on Gemfibrosil because they were super high when I was diagnosed recently as a T1. |

My doc has me on Gemfibrosil because they were super high when I was diagnosed recently as a T1. | I had been on Lipitor 10mg for cholesterol for one year (April 2005 - April 2006) but that was it. My lab results are from 3 months after I stopped taking the Lipitor. Now, besides insulin, I only take Levoxyl 100mcg, one low dose aspirin and Advair.
Last year when I was getting the Lipitor and fosinopril, and I had also been getting an asthma pill (Singulair, which did nothing), I felt like an old lady going into the pharmacy. I'd leave with a huge bag of medications! Two types of insulin (pre-pump), pen needles, test strips, pills and inhalers. It's much simpler now and I plan on keeping it that way with continued exercise and watching my diet.
