I think that if you eat everything at once, the effect of all the carbs will be slowed. If you mix something like pizza with a sugary drink, you might have more of an immediate rise than with just pizza alone, but not as fast with just drinking a regular soda.
I had a really nasty delayed high a few days ago when I went chocolate crazy. Against my better judgement I stopped in a fancy candy store

Was fine an hour later, then was at 233 a couple of hours later. Corrected, another hour goes by and I'm 350. Corrected, another hour and I'm only down to 339. Went for a brisk 40 minute walk, came back home, and was 80.
All of the fat in the chocolate delayed the carbs, thus the rise several hours later that kept going up. After the 80, I ate dinner and was fine for the rest of the night and the next morning.
