| | | Good news I was dx with type 1 on 5/3/06 with a HA1C of 11.3. I just got the results of my latest HA1C and it was 5.5!! This is very encouraging to me and I thought some of the other newbies might find it encouraging too. |

But, be sure to keep up watching it because you could be honeymooning (I hate that stage. Lulls you into a false sense of safety).
Again, way to go!

| | | Yes, I think I am honeymooning. How do you know when it is over? Is it drastic and quick? When its over do you numbers just go higher or are they all over the place? This is the big unknown to me...any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

For me, I know that it was pretty sudden, and my bg's just started going everywhere. I couldn't control them for anything. But, that is when you just need to work that much harder to keep in control. Make sure that you keep up with your bg testing and also with your dr. appointments because then you can catch nasty bg patterns a whole lot sooner than trying to do it all yourself. And, this makes you not go so badly out of control when that honeymooning is first over.
Don't worry yourself about it too much, but like I said, just make sure you are on top of things so that you know when honeymooning is over.

| | Great job
My story is very similar, I was dx with a1c of 13.1 and in 4 months got it down to 5.4. I hope I'll manage to keep it low when the honeymoon is over. Quote: |

Generally the lower it is the better. As the a1c goes higher so does the probability of developing diabetes complications in the future. The ADA recomends keeping it below 7 but many argue that it should be lower or that it's perfectly fine to go higher. I'm sure you'll hear a lot more about it in the future.

I'm joking, but I'm trying to be realistic about it. There is 50% I'm getting a placebo and even if not it's obviously not a sure thing, that's why they are doing this trial. It will be great if it works but chances are that it doesn't. That said, I do think it's a very promising treatment method, only time will tell.

If you want to know more, there are a couple of good google links that will help you to know more about the biology of it all. Do a search for "what is the definition of HbA1c?" and you will get a few links off of that, as well as a link to the Wikipedia version, which is actually quite accurate. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
