so i made a hello thread but i forgot what i was going to ask, i remembered it today but couldent edit my post for some reason so here it is.

about a week ago i started gettin bad pains in my stomach, it was waking me up in my sleep i was using pain killers for a day or 2 then went to my docs she put me on some tablets (omeprazole 20mg gastro-resistant tabelts) i been taking 1 day since. im not sure if there working properly i still get little pains but there livable pains nothing to bad the problem is my suger lvl's are higher than ever, they been going up to 22mmol just last night i went to bed at 10.3 and taking 26 units of insulatard and waking up at 8.0mmol i usally only take 20 units but started giving the extra units i was told to use if i ever get an infection or am ill. i havent changed what i have been eating since before i started gettin the pains so with the high lvls im thinking it is a infection or something wrong inside to make my lvls stay like this even tho i feel fine.

this is the first time since last july when diagnosed i have had problems controlling my lvls and i dont really know what to do. should i go back to the docs say the tablets arnt working even tho they might be, or maybe just say about the high lvls im gettin all the time. or give the specalist at the hospital a ring see what she says or shall i just leave it and see if my lvls go down at all.

i just havent a clue what to do so help would be appreciated

i would first contact your diabetes specialist at the hospital. They are more clued up on diabetes (obviously) that your local GP.

As far as I can work out as well, from speaking to them at my local diabetes clinic, most of them have done a round of GP'ing too.

In my opinion, GP's and many, if not most, diabetes specialists don't know anything about diabetes management, and I use them for prescriptions only, to avoid harming myself. Illness and infection can jack your sugars into the stratosphere, and the only thing you can do about that is inject a lot more insulin. Test often, of course, to monitor it carefully.

If you're still having stomach pains then whatever underlying infection you have is still there, which is probably why your BG is elevated. I'd see the doctor again and explain that you're still suffering. Raised BGs also slow down your body's healing process too.

I notice you say you take Insulatard - you do also have a bolus insulin like Novorapid or Humalog, right?

I would express your concern to either the GP - or ur specialist whoever you can see 1st and explain that your levels are still high - and as Deus said that slows up the healing process - and they could be high because of you feeling under the weather.

How much insulin are you taking long and short acting? do you think that you are taking enough to cover what you are having each meal? - have you levels been high before you had this problem?

i usually take 20 units of insulatard b4 bed and 10 units of novorapid b4 meals and yea b4 the pains started my lvls were fine 90% of the time they were 4-7 b4 meals and 7-9 b4 bed

I think that you should make an appt with the Dr - and try and get this sorted and then see if your BG's level out. for now as they are running higher.. try upping your intake of insulin to try and bring them down.
