Angry out of control.

well bugger.

for some really weird reason i keep going high! it's so annoying!!!

i keep bolusing huge corrections and it either stays high or plummits. i'm not usually like this, but i have no idea what to do.

i never have ketones (well my meter says i have 0.2 when i test for ketones, which as far as i'm aware is normal). i'm not sick (though i am stressed)

an example of this is that i woke up with the bg of 21mmol (378dg/l) for no reason. i was not high before i went to bed and had not eaten anything different...

my bgs keep sitting inbetween 10-20mmol (180-360dg/l) they fluctuate heaps and it's driving me nuts!!!

it is really hot here at the mo, 30+ degrees C (approx 88+ degrees F) could that be having an effect?

i'm just really pissed that i can't get it under control. any suggestions?

thanks for listening!!!

I feel for you, I really do. I am often high in the morning, no matter what I do.

I do know that whenever I am under a lot of stress, my sugars do go higher. So, that could be part of what is happening.

I hope you manage to get them under control soon!

i've had that happen a couple of times.

i found that if i started a new bottle of insulin. that usually took care of the problem. don't know if that will help you or not.

hope you get it straightened out

Ugh, I hate feeling that way :. I'm a bit of a control freak, so when my blood sugars aren't where they should be that is the worst feeling for me .

It sounds like you are really trying to get things back on track- I think that's half the battle.

How often are you testing? Perhaps you should consider increasing the frequency of testing... and then also keeping good logs.

That is something I am horrible about. I can test, no problem, but the logs I stink at. However, I do realize that they are important. I think they can help you recognize patterns or difficult times of days... And it makes adjusting things easier for your doctor...

Also, when was the last time that you ran a basal test? It's possible that your overall rates need to be changed.

Then, of course, there could just be no rhyme or reason for your difficulties... at least, none that are truly visible to us. In that case, I would just try and hang in there. Test as much as you can and correct or treat accordingly. Sometimes these issues just pass on their own.

Hang in there.

I think from what I have read before you sound like you are under some stress right now, Ok, try to wake up 2 hrs before you would normally eat breakfast, if it is high take a correction bolus, once the bg is under 10mmol, dose accordingly for a meal try a low carb one,......check in two hours if it is above 10mmol correct.......do this all day, on top of everything else when I am stressed, I sit in a nice bath, anytime of day, do some house work the movement will get your bg's dropping, don't do any strenous exercise at this moment, take a nice walk, play outside with kids or the dog or whoever, get your mind in focus, and keep correcting the highs, remember this even if you take a unit you will only need a certain amount of carbs to bring it make up, sometimes a couple of sips of soda really is all you need, stress highs are a *****, and that is what they sound like, I know it is hard but calm down, breathe, the sugars will come down, after about two days, you should feel more normal if not, then it is probably time to up the basal's.......

Good luck.........

I have been there

Stress will do that to me in a heartbeat. I used to be high a lot, like most of the time. My eating habits weren't terrible, well, usually, lol, but I just stayed high. Now that I'm on the pump it isn't so bad. Our bodies, go figure!

If I was real high and took a correction bolus I would take separate injections of no more than 7 cc's. So If I took 14cc's I would inject 7 in my stomach and 7 in my leg.

It seemed as though the insulin work harder and I would get more milage out of it.

Have you really tested the accuracy of your basal dose? If you are overdosing, you go low in the night, your pancreas and liver respond by dumping glucagon and sugar, you wake up way high, you correct, you go low, you eat and your liver dumps more sugar, you go high, and so on. Incorrect basal doses ruin your whole day. You have to fast and avoid bolusing while you test, though, and you have to wait until your blood sugar stops rising. Once it stops rising, you see if it starts going down, and if it does, you're taking too much basal insulin. You can sort of judge how much you're overdoing it by how quickly it drops. It's a real pain in the butt to test, but well worth the effort.

If you took 14cc's of insulin, you would be taking 1,400 units! I remember the old 1cc syringes which were marked in 2 unit grids, and I haven't really thought of insulin in terms of cc's since then.

i think it must be the basal rates. cause they've been abit werid for awhile. it's just recently they've shot through the roof...

i've upped my basal rate tp 135% of the normal dose and that's helped...

ant hill - my basal rate is
10pm/12am 1.40iu
12am/9am 1.4
if that helps...!

i'll do more testing *humph* :|

i'll try a new vial too and see what happens.

thanks for your input guys
