when sugars are low

i find it very difficult to accurately bring my sugar levels back up to what i want when i go low. i usually go too high, then i have to adjust again.

the foods i eat affect me differently when i don't take any meds for them. when i'm low i don't dare take any meds.

so my question is simple. for for every 10 points i want to bring it up how many carbs should i eat.

i know everyone will be different because of body mass and such but just maybe i can get a better idea for a basis to go on.

I don't know how normal I am ( I seem to need less carbs then others suggest elsewhere) but 1 gm carb raises my blood sugar between 4 and 5 mg/dl. I weigh about 62Kg.

The standard treatment for lows is 15 carb wait 15 mins and retest and repeat if still low.
3 or 4 glucose tablets are enough to treat a low if you have your basal correct.
Hope that helps you.

I was taught the rule of eating or drinking 15 carbs, waiting 15 minutes, then testing again. I try to drink 1/2 cup of OJ, wait 15 minutes then test again. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but thats what I try to do.

I think you've been given some good advice. This is something I struggle with, too. I hope you manage to get a handle on it!

If you know how low you are and you know your blood sugar to carb ratio, you can figure out how many carbs you need. You can measure or calculate the ratio.

Interesting Cyborg,
The calculation works well for me. I came out with 4.5 which is what I'd found through self testing.

This is not really my advice but something I have noticed here.

When I go low I actualy have a dark chocolate flake and it works a treat, I test my blood after and I am around 7 to 9.

It also means I get to enjoy a nice bit of chocolate hehe.
