Lantus autopen

I've just started lantus last week, the Dr recommended the autopen, so OK, I don't know any better, go with the the recommendation.

The CDE showed me the ropes, including allowing ~10 secs for the insulin to to fully expelled from the pen. But I find even after close to 20 seconds there's a fair-size droplet of insulin expelled from the pen after I pull back from the injection site. Anyone else seen this? How important is it - surely this amount of insulin means I don't really know how much insulin I have injected?

This happens to me too. I do turn the needle as I withdraw it but I'm not sure it makes any difference.
Its a small droplet and presumambly is a fairly consistent amount so it shouldn't make a difference in your overall control .

This will always be the case it seems. Happens to me for lantus and rapid too. I wouldn't worry about it too much!

I personally found the Autopen to be utter pants. I just didn't trust that it was doing what it said as far as the dose goes.

The last 'official' Lantus pen wasn't much better, though I haven't tried one in 3 or 4 years I guess. You could try one of these?

I actually use a Lilly BD pen. Which causes the hospital to throw up their arms in horror, but it works. I obviously am not recommending this to others, and I would gladly use a recommended pen if I felt them to be better than my DIY effort...

that happens to me too, but as Helen says it does happen every time and is the same amount- so control isn't affected. the biggest problem i have is the numbers have almst rubbed off my autopen, so i need to ask for a new one when i go to clinic in april.

You dont need to wait untill you go to the clinic!!??

Just ask for one on your prescription slip. I can give you the part numbers if you need them? 1unit pen or 2unit pen?
