Tired after lunch

Does anyone else get tired after eating, but there BG'S are normal?

i often eat lunch and then can't stay awake for nothing.I check my BG as soon as i start to feel tired, usually only takes 30 min or so. They are always within 70-130

Soon as i wake up i check my BG'S again and they're still normal. i've tried all different kind of foods, thinking that might be it and yet it still happens. it is driving me nuts!!!

my doc has no answers for it and i don't believe this is normal. i get plenty of sleep at night, what am i missing here?

I don't personally experience this, but I think it's a common phenomena for anyone, diabetes or not.

Years ago I used to work with a Syrian guy who called it "Third Worlding", as in sitting around a big communal platter of food and eating until you fall back snoring. Except that he would third world after soup and a sandwich, and he wasn't diabetic. I noticed the same thing in myself after he drew such attention to the phenomenon, but it was pretty mild in my case, and I really don't notice it any more.

I often feel this way if I eat a larger than usual lunch. Most of the time I have nothing or just something small to tide me over. A lot of parents that I talk to feel this way mid-afternoon, that's one reason that we all get our X-Large coffee's to take to school when picking up our kids!

Could it be your metabolism? Maybe you should try to exercise after lunch, even if it's just a short walk.

The last thing that came to mind after reading your post was something that I heard a long time ago about napping during the day. They say that you should take the number of hours that you sleep at night, divide it in half, then add on 12 hours, and that's the time to plan for your nap. (no longer than 30 min.) So, if you sleep from 11 pm to 7 am - the middle of that is 3 am. Add on 12 hours and that would be 3 pm. - the perfect time for your body to have a "siesta"

Good luck!

ah interesting. I was diagnosed in december 06, and maybe a month after diagnosis i started feeling tired after lunch. and have continued to feel tired after luch since then. It doesnt matter what or how much i eat, in 8 out of 10 times i feel like napping after lunch. if i do, i can sleep for hours.

Now it turns out i have a hypo thyroid, maybe you want check that out. On meds now and hm, yet to notice any difference.

This all definetly started when i got diagnosed though.

I'm always tired between 2-3pm. Some days I can barely keep my eyes open. I'm not sure if it's diabetes, some other problem, lack of movement at that time or all of the above.

I'm always tired too, but that could be because I'm always bored

Interesting.

I too am often tired in the afternoon, even though my blood sugar is normal. I have hypothyroidism as well.

Do you exercise? How many hours sleep do you usually get per night?

I had the same thing happen to me. If I sat down for more than 20 minutes, I'd nod off. Went on for months. Then I found out about being a diabetic, changed my diet to low glycemic load with very little carbs and my energy returned, and has been back for years. Even though your BG may not be showing, you could be spiking high between readings

I believe, I just has blood work on my thyroid and everything is good. I think it might be the constant fluctuations of bloodsugars and my body cannot handle it as well as it use to??
