Does any one know of a web site or company other than E-Bay that sells the protective covers for insulin vials? (i.e. if dropped onto floor, will protect the vial from shattering?)

I've never used them but that's the only thing I've seen that protects insulin vials and holds them as well. Of course, there's always the option of just using lots of duct tape.

This should be a patent but.......I use a camera film canister with a hole my husband cut out for the top and some one sided cushion tape inside it-the duct tape is used after inserting the vial inside-creative!!! I have broken numerous vials and got sick of nothing being invented-

I just took and cut up some packing material used to ship computers, and drilled the appropriate holes in it with a wood bit. Works great, holds 6 vials.
You don't really want to use the brittle styrofoam that they also use for coolers, some electronics is shipped in a foam that is more like a sponge - stiff but soft.

I also keep my vial in the bedroom now ( instead of the kitchen where the potential to drop and break on a tile floor is greater)-I leave it at home due to the hour of day that I take it AND I keep a supply at work. I take the Lantus 12 hours apart so my regimen at 7:00 am and pm works great! "best control in my history" per my endo!

Thanks for everybody's suggestions. I kept linking and researching and found exactly what I was looking for. They are called "securitee blanket" available through Diabetic promotions.com. I knew that I had seen them somewhere before. They have different sizes for short and long-acting insulins. Pretty cool--I just ordered some. Thanks again to everyone

Those blankets look a lot like the neoprene handle bar grips that you can get at bike shops...cut up a length of one and you'd have a ton? Am I missing something? Are these different in some way?

I can't believe there is so little to the design-like I said- my husband designed my idea in a little as 1/2 hour from start to finish-the hardest part was finding pieces to make it do exactly what we wanted

We give these to the people in our various mygluco programs and most people really like and use them. I like the duct tape option but that's hardly styling

the hardest part about making things like this is tooling up for high volume manufacture. Anyone with a little passion can spend a few hours making one or a prototype but getting it into a production line so that you have a high quality run at low cost is hard. I'm not sure why everyone doesn't use these?

Hmmmm... Time to go play in the machine shop; I could make something from foam or some type of plastic; besides, I need to keep my cnc programming skills intact while I am still laid off! (I got fired from my job because of diabetes related complications...)

Ooooohhh... I am picturing a cool knurled aluminum body with a foam insert; stylish and functional! maybe anodized in bright colors... but that is expensive.

Surprisingly, I got a couple of covers from Wal-Mart a few years back. They are foam and plastic and the insulin vials nestle down in the center. They split in half and come in a couple of colors. I think I have a couple in my supply drawer. I will go see if there is a name on them or take a picture anyhow.

I just bought two plastic covers from Home Page ($4.99 ea.) - i like them because there's a round RED one for short acting and they're clear enough to read the open date if you are writing that on the bottles. My son dx'd in April and not ready to pump yet, so these are great for him.

I don't use vials anymore, i use pens and cartridges, but could empty strip containers be used somehow? Double sided tape on a strip of neoprene and then inserted into a strip container would provide ample protedtion.
