Newest A1c - needs improvement

Well, I just received my lab work from my endo's office. I am a bit disappointed in my latest A1c. It is 6.7, up from a 6.2 3 months ago. My numbers have been jumping around a lot of late and I have had some pretty high ones (like 260 ish). So it is not surprising that the A1c came in at 6.7. But still, disappointing. I will try to be more diligent over the next 3 months. One of my problems is that I go low frequently and I have a tough time not rebounding afterwards - especially at my next meal. Thanks for listening.

That's not a bad a1c though. It's tough when you get lows, especially really low ones because all you want to do is eat. I'm sure the next time they'll be better!!

hey that not a bad HbAC1 result at all. Here in England thats considered a good reading any lower and they, the docs, would be concerned about the amout of hypo's with such a low reading.
0.7% is nothing in the big picture of things. And we must all remember that HbAC1 test are not the most accurate tests and must me used in conjuctions with our metre results.

Dont worry about it its fine

peace

Grammy, don't worry about it.
It just went up by .5, don't be too hard on yourself.
As you said the next one will be better. That's a good motivator.

That's one opinion. Another is that every 1% drop in HBA1c reduces your risk of complications by 40%. I cannot give you a source for that quote but I've seen it on here a few times. If you subscribe to this viewpoint rather than the <7% is fine then I can understand the OP's upset.

GrammyByer - what are you using to treat hypos? If you are hitting 260 post hypo then it sounds like you may be using my old hypo treatment method that served me well for years. It was called 'if it looks like it's dead and may contain sugar, eat it'. Now I use a max of 15g of carbs and test again in 15 mins. The worst rebound I've had since doing this is going up to a 7.5 (135)
