| | | Sick Day I haven't had flu in sooo long, but I have it now, and I honestly can't think what I need to do D wise for this.. can someone help?
I refuse to get flu shots cuz I always get sick from the shot (and I'm scared of needles), but this year it's come to bite me on the tush. I'm running fevers, can barely walk I am so weak, and.. well, no more details, its not pretty.
I can't eat, because my throat is red raw, so I'm sticking with water. I'm testing heaps, and have increased my basal and my correction ratios to deal with the bgs, but after a day of reasonable sugars I've had a 3 hr sleep and woke before on 360. took a bolus and am down to 328 (18.2) now. I'm on paracetamol and cold and flu tablets.
Is there anything else I should be doing?
Thanks guys.

| | | Definately push the fluids, and if you can't eat, get something with carbs in it so you have something going into your system for some energy. Do they have gatoraide over there? I'd be thinking drinkable soup as well....you need the energy and the fluids. And I don't know about you, but when I'm high from being sick my bg will drop easier if I'm eating....just taking corrections alone doesn't seem as effective under those circumstances.
Other than that, make sure you're monitering those bg's closely Kit, I know you go out of the ball park fairly easily, so try and stay on top of it!
I really hope you get to feeling better quickly; I'll be praying for you!

| | | Yes lots of fluids, maybe some tea with lemon and a little honey to help that sore throat. Dont know if you have Jello or gelitin, that would be easy on the throat too, broth, vegetable, chicken or beef.
Hope you feel better soon. |

| | Sorry you are so sick Katie. When I have anything that makes my throat sore, I always want something cold...it helps numb the throat so I can swallow. My favorite thing is those frozen juice bars, and they even have them in sugar free. Also steamy showers seem to help. Try to get as much rest as you can, I think it helps more than anything. Here's a big hug, those help a bunch too.

| | | Thanks girls.
I had vomiting start today as well, so that was fun... not.
I'm currently sitting here doped up to the hilt on paracetamol and codral night strength (even tho its the middle of the day), so I feel not too bad right now.
I've been sipping water and vita-fresh all day, and managed to have some vegetable soup. BGs have come down and are staying around the 125-160 mark. I'm happy with that while I'm sick, because I don;t want to hypo and have to force food / drink down.
Penny.. thanks for the hug. You're right, they do always help. Love you!!!!
