Crash after exercise

For the past few weeks after a run or jog I will just crash. I get back from exercise and just sit on the couch for like 20 minutes because I have no energy. What is going on with my bg at this time?

Test and you shall find out. I don't see how there's any other way to answer that besides testing to see what happens to your BG while exercising. Most likely if you aren't cutting the pump basal back or eating more during, then you will drop. And if you elect to cut back the basal, you need to do it about 1 hour prior to exercising for it to take effect.

I usually eat aout 30 carbs or so before a good workout...then my BG stays even. My BG also seems to drop about 11 or 12 hours after I exercise, so I make sure I eat something then, also. Weird...but whatever works!

Maybe your body is telling you that you need nutrients to repair muscle, replenish glycogen etc. After a workout, I usually have a protein shake (made with milk) and some fruit, which I cover with insulin. I feel a lot better afterwards.

Definetly check before and after you jog. People seem to react differently to cardio. I will drop in BG when i jog, but some also seem to go high. So i'd test my sugar before and after a jog to learn how your body reacts to cardio and find a pattern. Then afterwards i'd also recommend having carbs of some kind. I will drink a protein/carb drink with about 40 gram of carbs and 25 gram protein after i lift weights. i do not bolus for that though, but that is different from person. You might not need the protein if you are just doing cardio, but carbs yeah. I've noticed that i used to crash sometimes after workout, but the carb drink helps me.

Oh, and maybe you can use those 20 minutes to stretch and to some light yoga or something...

just some thoughts.

I have found that when I do an aerobic type exercise (like running), that I get the best results if I take my pump off from about 30 minutes before I start until I am finished. I have had very few lows afterwards using this technique. Try it to see how it works for you. Good luck!!

Just a small note to add, your muscles continue to suck up extra carbs for up to 36 hours after activity so keep that in mind.
