Low BSL before bed

I have a question about what to do when I have an hypo just before I go to bed.

I had one last night about an hour before bedtime so I took an orange juice (125 ml). Then I had my usual snack and took my insulin (same units as usual), but I had an other hypo about an hour after I went to bed.

Is it normal or what did I do wrong?

There is a solar hurricane

You'd know best. Why did you have the first hypo? If I have unexplained lows or highs, I'll often assume it will continue. I'd have taken an extra snack, prolly some protein and a few carbs, to prevent going low again. Anticipating a liver dump is ok during the day, but I don't at night.

I Always have a snack before going to bed.........but........but if I've had a hypo, I add extra protein or fat or both so that absorbtion of carbs will be slowed down and when doing this rarely have hypos during the night.

The idea of me going hypo during the night scares the beejezuz out of my wife, so I try to make sure she understands what I do to protect us is effective.

Also, the only 2 times I've gone below 60/3.3, my cat has jumped up me and woken me up------very unpleasant having a cat lick you on your bare chest.

I have woken up with numbers in the 30s and 40s. It is uncommon for me and causes me to be very disoriented when I wake up but for the most part I'm not afraid of a fatal during the night low... unless of course I took 10 units of fast acting insulin before I went to bed without any carbs.

There could be any number of reasons for your low. It could be your basal amount, too much insulin for dinner, exercise, and the list goes on..

Been there, Done that.. many times... For Me? I just screwed up way back at dinner time and took too much Novalog and thus I'm too low before bed.. Not the choice is Stay the course and try eating an extra 6-10 carbs snack and risk that Might Go Hypo over nite? Or Take double dose of Carbs and set my alarm for 3-4 hrs later , to catch a Spike and take a Correction Bolus...

It's the price we pay for not paying attention 100 % of the time and It Teaches my Old Brain to remember this, the next time I screw up...

What's crazy for me is that my body won't let me go to sleep if I'm GOING to have a low or if I'm below 90. It has a really weird sense of future-telling. It absolutely drives me nuts because I'll be dead tired but won't be able to sleep. I'll check my blood sugar every half hour and even they they are technically fine (95, 90, 85, 80), I'm going low and my body knows it. I'm thankful for this life-saving quirk so I can correct it. Besides, it's the only way I can actually get to sleep when this happens. Anyone else experience this same phenomena?

i get exactly the same thing.......

If I go hypo before bed I put of going to sleep for at least two hours until I see a pattern I happy with.
It's quite common for me to experiance another hypo after the first one and during sleeping is the worst time for me.

I was at 2.7 mmol/L one night and at 2.9 mmol/L the other night. And it happened before I had my usual snacks. And I ate my usual 45g of carbs and I took my usual 6 units of Novorapid. Really don't know what happened.

I didn't know if I had to take another two snackx after the hypos (one with proteins 15 minutes after I drank some juice and my usual ones)!

surely 6 units is too much for 45g carbs, i would take 4units for the amount. not that i'm an expert being only Dx 4 months, but 1 unit to 10g carbs no??

i have the same thing with trying to go to sleep when i'm about to have a hypo, i just can't close my eyes... i get stange patterns when my eyes are closed and heart palps. awww the joys of a hypo!

i described to a mate how a hypo feels and he said people pay good money to feel that way! fool!!!!! lol

Carb/unsulin ratio are as different as are people. It is totally individual. I have a 1 unit per 75 carb ratio. Natrually i am very insulin sensitive. It differs.
