| | | a new record! Haven't seen a BG reading of 200 in 12 days! W00t!
Yesterday it wasn't even over 100. My last reading last night was 83; I ate a banana and slice of bread with butter (one of my favorite snacks ) and no extra bolus, just Lantus and it was 83 again this morning.
I must be doing something right?
Now I'm eating some big green grapes for a snack; we'll see what that does to me. |

| | | Congrats on the low numbers! What would have happened to your basal if you hadn't eaten the banana & bread? (by morning, I mean)...This is something I struggle with, if I go to bed without eating, I sometimes drop below 60-70...if I eat, I can sometimes hit the 100 mark or close to it. If I overeat, then I have a high fasting in the morning.
In theory my basal should be flat all night, but I drop. If I lower my Lantus, then I'm too high before meals during the daytime. So, I just eat a snack before bed...trying to not go over the edge. It's a tough thing when you seem to have everything else (mealtime) worked out! |

| | | This is the main reason many people take Lantus in the mornings. Don't know why Lantus starts recommendations for night injections except they may feel the four hour start-up period will be going on during sleep.
In my case, I always dropped at the four hour point or slightly after at night. Daytime that hits around lunch, so it's not a problem.
By taking injection in the morning, it's wearing off in the early morning hours. So, not so much of a drop as before, when on a nighttime dose.
I did split dose and did pretty well. But for simplicity, I'm trying to get back on one dose. I've increase my dosage about 3 units slowly. I'm at 28 units Lantus now which is the most Lantus I've ever been able to take. I really have to watch the night time lows, if I don't eat a snack or large dinner. (Pasta, noodles...I don't snack!)
Last night was Pad Thai...so I was up every few hours checking. Did a 1 unit bolus of Humalog at 2:30 a.m. and woke up around 104. I was 174 at @ 2:30 a.m., so I risked the bolus and did fine...due to the high carb dinner, I'm sure. |

| | | Aw, and I just went and botched it. I had an orchestra concert tonight, and so I didn't take as much Novolog as I should've with dinner (why is pasta so hard to figure out?!) since I knew it was going to be late.
234, now I get to start over.... |

| | | Why harder with Pasta? Well I call it Long Lasting carb foods, they take longer to digest and hve you figured out How Long your Novalog Last you? Mine Last about 3 hrs and then starts slacking off... thus When I eat some Long Lasting carbs? I can expect #'s to strat creeping up in 2-3 hrs...
I test on ave of every 2 hrs when earing my Ave lasting Foods, but when I Fall off the wagon and eat Pasta, etc.? I test 2,3 & 4 hrs... and get ready to bolus...
Others use R insulin since it last longer ( ave 4-6 hrs ) and have had better success with it..
Hope this helps you |

What do you get up to in exercise? If you are not then you may do something anyway.
Congratulations for your BG constance. |

| | I'm only 125 lbs or so (5'9") so I don't have to exercise much but I walk and ride bike sometimes.
I have another musical starting Friday night; oh boy, here we go again! (Wizard of Oz!) We'll see how the next three weeks go. |

| | | Well I switched to taking my Lantus in the mornings, and now I haven't seen 200 in a month! Well OK I had a couple of 190s. My morning numbers have been a bit higher but yesterday it was 76 and today 81, plus I increased to 12 units of Lantus so I can eat more. I should be able to get in to the doctor in January.
