Symlin........more Questions.....help

Since using symlin and studying up on it ,I'm still left with some questions. I've found lots of info on the internet and from my doctor(mostly from here and internet), I don't want to run to my dr. everytime. So here are a couple of questions,if anyone knows. Just how many "units" are in a vial of symlin? I know there's a conversion chart of how many units to take per mcgs, but just how many U's are in the whole bottle? I'm trying to determine how many bottles I'd need for a 90 day supply.I think just 3,because it has to be tossed out after 28 days anyway, right? And I don't think I'll be taking more than 5-10 units a dose, but then I'm not sure,I'm still in the experimental stages. And has anyone ever continued to use the symlin after the 28 days, that they tell you to discard it? And what, if anything, happens? Will it harm you? or just not be effective?I'd appreciate any input to my inquiring mind. Thanks in advance.

There are 5 ml per vial (half as big as a vial of insulin), or 500 'units'. So if you took 10 units per meal, or 30 units every day, you'd take 900 units per month and you'd need two bottles per month.

I use the bottles until they're empty, and I have a bottle at work and at home. As I keep them refrigerated, I don't see why I need to throw them out after 28 days. My assumption is that it wouldn't be as effective after 30 days, but I truly don't know.

I hope this helps.

From what I understand, the reason why that these medicines which come in vials have the 28 days after puncture limit is because the pharmaceutical companies testing protocol lasts for 28 days. Okay? Obviously, there needs to be some level of guarantee but to test for time after that would increase the cost of the testing procedure.

28 days isn't any sort of magical number really then, that all of a sudden after that the proteins begin falling apart. Of course, beyond 28 days we don't have any lab tests following protocol to guarantee effectiveness, but my own personal experience has shown me that so long as the vials aren't subjected to extremes in temperature, the contents remain quite stable and effective.
