| | Question about painful injections I put this up in "diabudies" but no "budies" are there.
I keep my lantis in the fridge. And in the morning I do 10-13u depending. And every time I do it, it stings and burns and makes me go OWWW!!! I have let it sit to get to room temp and that makes no difference.
I use the ....
BD ULTRA-FINE
1/2" length
30 gauge
Had the smaller ones needles before but can't seem to find them all the time.
Does this happen to you too?

Does this happen to you too? | My Lantus injection burns sometimes......but usually only when I take it in my thighs. I think mine is always according to where I inject.....certain areas of my stomach, the wrong place on my rear, but always on the thighs.

| | | The larger the dose, the more likely it is that it will burn. So you could try splitting your 10-13 units between two shots, either given one after the other in different places, or at different times of the day. I use 14 units of Lantus daily - 7 units before bed and 7 units in the morning. I don't have a problem with burning, but it used to happen when I did only one shot a day.

| | | Cold insulin/Lantus may be the problem. If I inject it straight from the fridge, it is painful. I fill a syringe, replace the vial, then allow the syringe to warm to room temp before injection. Only takes a few minutes.

| | | Lantus is known as being a bit stingy as modern insulins go. It catches me occasionally but not often and I always do Lantus in my thighs.
I always use the 8mm 31g penfine needles. If I convert from the oldspeak, I'm guessing you are using 12mm (which is around 1/2 inch). May be significant? I much prefer the shorter needles as I find they give a more comfortable injection. |

| | | My Levemir only stings when I replace cart. and wipe off end with Alcohol wipe to put on 1st needle.
I believe it is the alcohol that does this - I get the same results on 1st use of NovaRapid use as well.
