Lantus Peak

Sure, we all know it is not supposed to, but mine does! Today my Doc. said if it does, it will in hour 4. Mine seems to be in hour 7, any feedback is appreciated. I take 9 in the a.m. and 8 in the p.m. Pretty much on my feet for 12 hours a day, but I tend to wake up high sometimes, like 300's. I never know if I rebounded or just went high. Tomorrow I get my test results, and I am worried I have lost control! What does your Lantus do for you?

Hello Jenn, I take my lantus at night as I rearly test during the night but are you saying that this insulin is to have a peak. Well I am not surprised, The pharmaceutical company that produce this Lantus that say has no peak and a fast onset is flawed.
Shoud we believe that their clame is true??

I also used to see a Lantus peak somewhere between 12-15hours, and then it'd run out of steam around 20hours and I'd start going high. Now I do a split dose morning and evening (4U each) and am not aware of peaks anymore

I have noticed an increase in absorbtion during heavy exercise which I suppose you could call a peak. Although this is not the insulin which peaks its my metabolism. Most drugs are tested in controlled enviroments unfortunately life doesn't work like that.

No peak for me. I take mine when I wake up (6-7 am). It was running out around 3 am, but I increased it from 28 to 32 units, and my morning BGs have been very good.

At one point in my use of Lantus I realized that it only worked for 19-20 hours and by the time I took the next dose at 24 hours and by the time it started to work my BS was skyrocketing through the night. If you realize that most of us sleep around 8 hours that period of high blood sugars may end up 1/4 of our day. The result for me was a distinct rise in my A1c number. This problem was resolved when my doctor told me to split the dose so that there was always some basal coverage. That worked great but to make everything work my two doses are not the same, 24 am and 18 pm.

The morning highs for you may be a result of the Lantus running out. I have never detected a peak in its action, but splitting the dose would certainly make this less apparent if it does exist.

Mine peaks after about 7-8 hrs. I take one shot in the morning so it peaks about 4pm Its a good time for me to have a snack so it doesn't bother me.
I have noticed that if my dose is even1 unit high it is more noticeable. Reducing it 1 unit can make a lot of difference.
If you take a shot at 8pm you will be getting the peak around 3am, so it could be that you're getting a rebound high in the morning?
