Hypertension kicks in

Well, at my regular visit to my CDE yesterday she declared me as officially having hypertension. I started ACE inhibitors. This ticks me off greatly. I never smoked, my weight has always been perfect, I stopped alcohol completely on diagnosis and I eat really well. My A1C is 5.8. I treat my disease very aggressively. And now this. 2 years of battle with T1 and this sneaks up on me. I'm sitting at work trying not to bawl.

My personal solution so far with T1 has been to get smart about the disease, read everything I can on the topic. So what can you guys recommend for reading material?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

I hope you take those ACE inhibitors. Getting your BP low with pills is a lot better for you. And with the pills, at least you can say your bp is controlled, when it comes up. I had to start ACE inhibitors about 10 years ago. My doctor likes to blame the hbp on diabetes instead of me.

Living in a healthy manner is still no guarantee of good results; sad but true. You can't pick your genes, so that's half our control already gone! Keep up the healthy lifestyle . . . you may never know how much it pays off.

My Endo started me on ACE inhibitors at the ripe old age of 19 (had diabetes for 13 years by then). My blood pressure was only boarder line hypertensive. My diastolic was hardley above 80. This just pissed me off. What 19 year old should be on BP medication??? Well I took up running and that has helped out tremendously. I have actually been able to go off the meds completely, and now a year later, (just went back to the endo today) my BP measured 106/62.

Do you exercise? That might help.

Fabulous! Keep up the good work, and hopefully you won't need meds for bp for a very long time, if at all. It does sound crazy to be taking something for high blood pressure at 19. I just know it doesn't need to be ignored at any age. You are doing great.

Maybe this can work for Joe??
